Mefenamic Acid and Cerelle.

Hello, After years of heavy painful periods I finally had a scan in Feb. This revealed that I have a blood filled cyst on my left ovary. I have been referred to a Gyno and he told me that my cyst and my symptoms indicate I could have Endometriosis. He wants me to have a laparoscopy but I need to lose weight first. In the mean time I have been prescribed Mefenamic Acid and Cerelle. I came on yesterday and as usual came the nausea, agonising pain, heavy bleeding and fatigue. I started the Cerelle but I know that can take a while to kick in. I also took my Mefenamic Acid along with some paracetamol and found that although my pain seems less severe it's still quite bad. It is bearable to some extent but I still feel as though I am struggling to get up and if I was meant to be working today I would probably have to phone in sick. I just don't know what to do anymore, This is having such a massive impact on my life. I am facing investigations at work due to high levels of sickness, I am having to take year out from education. I am 27 years old and just want to be able to finish my degree and progress with my career. I have a holiday booked to Florida in two months and I am due on the day I go, I just know the first part of the hol is going to be ruined. I'm just wondering what other people have experienced with this medication, and if anyone has any advice on other ways to deal with these symptoms. Thanks x

Hey, sorry to hear how much you're suffering. I've only recently been diagnosed with severe endo so I can't speak about any treatments you're on but I have been living with endo related severe fatigue and pain for the past 4 years so I might have some experience that could be helpful.

I tried to work and juggle it all and I eventually realised it was just suffocating me. I had no energy for anything and my life was awful. I went off sick last October to try build up my energy and better understand what was going on but I've since realised that at this point in my life I can't work. I trained for many years to get the career I had and its a bit devastating but my health is priority. I'm having to declare myself bankrupt to do this. I turn 40 this year and its definitely not how I imagined my life going! I'm just trying to fight it less because I think that's how you end up getting miserable about it. I'm learning to accept it and trust in my life a bit. I've found changing to this kind of mind set absolutely key for me. I think I was a bit of a control freak and I've had to just (add the frozen song says) "let it go".

In terms of practical ways to help, I've found meditation a total life saver. It's meant I can handle my pain better, I can bring myself away from focusing on it so much. It helps just in so many ways. I also do yoga every day which I think helps me emotionally bit also stops my body seizing up so much and leading to more pain.

I've got really into alternative therapies too. I see a chiropractor regularly which really helps with my pain (I get a lot of hip and back pain) and I've had reiki, reflexology, I'm willing to give anything a try! It's all helped. I've just started seeing a physio for visceral-pelvic mobilisation which supposedly helps with adhesions but it's too early to say whether it's helping. I get acupuncture from them too which is great for pain.

I know you mentioned you are needing to lose weight for surgery so you may be looking at your food at the moment but there's also a diet that can help with hormone imbalance and endo. It's not about weight loss but it's super healthy so it may do that for you too. It's quite restrictive but I've heard great things about it. I've only just started that so I can't say if it's helped. I can point you to a spot for more info if you're interested.

I also looking into cbd oil as I've heard amazing things about it for pain and inflammation.

Basically there are loads of things that could help! It's best to not just jump in and do everything at once but instead try making little changes bit by bit and see if it helps.

There is lots of hope for you and you're certainly not facing this alone. X

Hey I've also just started on mefanamic acid for suspected endometriosis. My Dr told me to start taking them a couple of days before my pain usually starts, my pain usually starts the day before i start so I've started taking it 2 days before that. The way it works is by trying to block the pain signal, and is most effective by blocking the pain before its there rather than trying to block it when its in full swing. Ive only been on it for one cycle i still had pain but it was lessened and not as sharp and meant i could go to work. So maybe try next time taking it a couple of days before to see if it makes more of a difference for you.
