hi ive been on zoladex for 3 months this is my 3rd course in about 10 years cause of pain, ive been told i can have a hystarectomy (sorry cant spell) but to have a 3 month course of this again to see if to remove my ovaries aswell, im feeling really down at the minute and ive no reason to be feeling like this as my life is good. im just wondering if menopause is gonna be the same, and if the symptoms are normal. thank you

Hello Kerbot, sorry to hear you are feeling so low.

Low mood is a known side effect of Zoladex treatment so it could be that this is making you feel a bit down. Has your Specialist coupled Zoladex with a dose of “add-back” HRT to try and minimise these kind of adverse effects or are you just on Zoladex alone? It might be worth having a chat to your GP/Specialist about HRT options as this could be benficial both while you are on Zoladex and if you do decide to go ahead and have your ovaries removed too.

The side effect leaflets for Zoladex can be found here:

Given that Zoladex is known to impact on mood, it might also be worth asking your GP / Specialist about emotional support as sometimes just having someone sympathetic to talk to when fluctuating hormones are making you feel grotty can be a huge help.

Best of luck, x X x

Not so long to go then - fingers crossed you'll be feeling more yourself again soon. I've found that knowing that it's the treatment making you feel a bit low rather than anything else going on in your life can make it easier to cope with. But definitely chat to your GP/Specialist about HRT options and other support options if you have the surgery. Although oestrogen fuels the growth of endometriosis it is also crucial to the preservation of bone density, mood & memory function etc. Some women do find all of this dips during chemical, surgical, and natural menopause, but others are absolutely fine - it's just always worth chatting through the options.

I hope it all goes well, x X x

You are feeling down because the zoladex makes people feel like that. I actually wanted to kill myself on it and also am not trying to scare when you lose your ovaries it gets worse PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE HAVING THE SURGERY GOOD LUCK.
