HELP!!!

hi, i’m 15 and i get the worst periods EVER. ever since i started my period at 12 i have always had periods that last 4-5 months with a 3 day break between them. their so heavy and painful and i get horrible back pain. i also get migraines with them. i went to my gp today as i’m worried and she was so rude and kept going on about using condoms during sex. i have had a sti test that came back negative so i know it’s nothing to do with that. she did a smear test on me (i’m on 15 and have had the hpv jabs so i don’t have cirvical cancer) and i felt like i wasn’t listened to. could it be endometriosis??? what should i do now

Hi Lucy,

What your going through sounds awful and it’s unfortunate that your gp is not being helpful . Perhaps change the dr your being seen by at that same general practice ? Or perhaps change gp. Has she not given you any medications for the pain and bleeding ? Has she told you why your experiencing the excessive bleeding ?

she said it’s because i stopped taking microgynon but i stopped that in october and my periods were just like this before i was even on the pill. i didn’t receive any meds either

That’s really bad . I was ok microgynon as well in my teens and that didn’t help. In fact it messed up my cycle I was coming on three times in a month. I’d say change the doctor and seek further advice/ opinion from the doctor. You may need to be referered to a gyno in certain circumstances.

So sorry that you're going through this so young :(

Can you see a different gp / different doctor? GPs aren't specialists and unfortunately just relate all period stuff to be age or unprotected sex, they say it's normal - I had really painful heavy periods all through teens and was told it's normal even now my GP said it's fine, it wasn't but I didn't know back then.

Perhaps see if the GP can do a referral to a hospital / clinic? Push for that your periods aren't right and you want it investigated by someone that specialises and can advise dependent on your situation.

I was given microgynon for heavy periods, and yes they made it lighter and more manageable, but 10 years later I stopped and all the stuff came back but worse, it not a normal side effect of coming off the pill and so needs to be investigated xx
