I had the mirena inserted about a week before my period was due, I’ve had the mirena twice before. First time I remember having hot flushes and feeling rotten but it was so long ago I can’t remember exactly why I felt rough but I remember bleeding for 40 days straight then nothing till removal. Second time no probs and no periods at all.
Had this one put in last thurs and feel like I’ve been hit with a sledgehammer, I can’t get enough sleep and I’m struggling to concentrate and get through work, now I don’t know whether this is purely mirena as I’ve had tonsillitis for about 8 weeks too and am on antibiotics so a proper double whammy!
Anyone else had the extreme fatigue just after mirena insertion? I also came on my period today, I went back to bed two hours after I had got up and had a good 8 1/2 hours sleep!

I don't know the answers, and am therefore only hypothesising, but maybe if your period was due when the mirena was put in, then maybe the sudden double whammy of extra progesterone came at the wrong time for your cycle and your body. Especially if you are now ... what, up to 5-10 years older ...? than when you first had a mirena, then maybe it's a brief touch of one aspect rather like perimenopause, but just temporary, until you body adjusts to new hormone levels and new cycles. This would apply even if you are still very young, the progesterone can make us more groggy, tired.
As I said, I'm just guessing, but if it continues to be odd, then see your Dr, but if it's okay-ish, then give it time for your hormones and cycles to settle down. I took about 3 - 6 months to settle down, but after dreadful endo in later life, the mirena proved invaluable to get me through the menopause.
Thank you, have had put back in to manage the endo pain after a couple of years TTC
Hello! I had the mirena put in at the same time they were doing a laparoscopy (agreed if they found endo they would put one in) and I’ve definitely found myself more tired slightly overall but between all the other symptoms, I have real issues with just total fatigue the week leading up to a period. As in I drag myself out of bed and going for a shower can be too much. If you’ve been ok before I wonder if they’ve changed it slightly?
