Conflicted and confused!

I have always had really heavy periods- there was a time I was getting anemic frequently before I went on the combined pill. When I was 19 I had a laparoscopy to check for endometriosis (family history and could not have a bowel movement for first 3 days of period due to the pain as well as irregular bleeding outside periods). They found no endo but did sever some nerves which means I can go to the toilet normally in my period now. The symptoms have been getting worse over the last few years and at the time of writing I have been bleeding and cramping for 3 weeks straight despite back to backing my pill so I wouldn't have a period (I don't usually do this). I still have pain during sex and I have had recent tests for infections, internal ultrasounds, an MRI and a endometrial biopsy (oh my gosh the pain was indescribable). Nothing found! I have been offered a second laparoscopy but I am worried they still wont find anything and it will be pointless - I really don't know what avenues to ask to go down and hospital gyny has only offered the operation or paracetamol! Any advice?

Hi Squirell2012,

I am sorry to hear you are suffering.

Are you under the care of the BGSE endometriosis centre?

A useful tool for finding a specialist in your area is the by looking on the British Society for

Gynaecological Endoscopy website. You can try and find a doctor in your area that has an interest in

endometriosis by having a look on bsge.org.uk and going to the ‘Endometriosis Treatment

Centres’ link. Here you can search for accredited endometriosis treatment centres.

Best Wishes,

M Mary, Endometriosis UK
