Hi All, I’m about to start a 3 month injection so one injection which lasts 12 weeks for endometriosis and then I’ll be have an operation to get rid of rest of the rest. I just want to know had anyone been on this how did they get on? Did your daily life change much or was it really not that bad?? 😬 any info would be really appreciated as I’m a bit nervous going on it.
3 month injection Decapeptyl: Hi All, I’m... - Endometriosis UK
3 month injection Decapeptyl
Hi Nikki, I had the same thing last year. I had a 3 month dose of decapetyl then my endo excision op 12 weeks later to remove severe endo and release my bowel from my ovary. I do feel for you, I was really nervous and it was a really stressful time for me. I had the actual injection in my bum and it was over and done with in a few seconds and I started to feel the side affects within a week or so, which were generally the menopause symptoms....for me the main ones were it increased my anxiety, gave me a foggy head which made me a bit forgetful and I’d wake up in the early hours and not be able to get back to sleep. I also had a few hot flushes which weren’t that bad to be honest (I’d just wear cardigans so I could cool off/warm back up). I downloaded some mindfulness apps to listen to in the night and had a calendar and ticked off each week I did. I still worked full time so I guess it wasn’t too bad, I think for me I was really nervous about my op so it might of added to what I was already feeling. Mine started to wear off after the op and I got my period again about 2-3 months after my op. Some woman I know it didn’t effect them at all so try to remember everyone is different is you feel better all worse then what you hear. Don’t be hard on yourself either, especially in the lead up to your operation.I wish you all the luck and hope your operation helps with your endometriosis! Mine has! Xx
Hello I have had all the injections, tablets, operations sadly for me nothing has worked! Everyone is different so everyone can cope with things differently, but I would strongly recommend not to be put on temporary menopause I was off work for 8months really poorly. I would say try and keep stress free as possible stress really can add to the pain! And make yourself as happy as you can with the things you love. Nothing to be nervous and I have my fingers crossed that this works for you and feel better xxx
Hi. I'm currently on my 10th week in after having the Decapeptyl injection. The first week or so I didn't really notice any changes as it took a while to get into my system. However i did feel a little bit anxious/on edge. I've been waking up in the middle of the night (3am) to go to the toilet and get a drink of water; I don't know if this is down to sweating so much at night time. Hot flushes are really noticeable however they are bearable - I can remember panicking thinking I was going to be like a sweaty mess in work, but it's just a burning sensation I get from my neck all the way up to the top of my head. My moods haven't really changed much, some days are better than other. The one thing I have noticed over the past week is weight gain. My eating habits haven't changed dramatically since having the injection so I'm assuming the extra weight is down to the hormones.
Just take each day as it comes. The best thing about being on this injection for me is the "no periods" as they were agonising. I am scheduled in to have my op for severe endo in January.
All the best xx
Thank you for getting back to me Rharvey. That’s very helpful. I’m 5 days in and no systems but then again I have been told like you said it takes a week or 2. So you never got your periods on this? That is actually something I was wondering about seems to be some do and some don’t. I would prefer not to 😁 hope everything goes well for you in January I’ve heard we won’t know ourselves after. Best of luck 😊x
My period was due like a week after my injection (which I had) and then I had scanty bleeding the following week. I assume it was body clearing everything out because I havent seen a period since which is great. I hope everything goes well for you and hope your symptoms aren't too bad xx
Hey Rharvey just wondering how u got on with everything? Have you got your period back? I haven’t yet and I would be coming up to the 3 1/2 to 4 month mark if when I took injection. I’m getting a lot of symptoms now more so than ever must be coming to an end maybe. Hope everything went well for u.
Hi nikkic86. I had my op at the end of January and funnily enough, I had my first period this week since last October (when I had my first lot of decapeptyl). About 2 weeks ago I was getting symptoms similar to period cramps and I noticed that my moods were a lot more relaxed and that the hot flushes were very rare now. My period hasn't been too bad however I'm trying to keep on top of medication so the pain is eased slightly.
As much as I enjoyed not having my periods, I would hate to go through having decapeptyl again because it made me feel awful. Fat, grumpy and constantly hot (like I was suffocating). I was glad to see this period because now I know its worked it's way out of my system xx
Oh me 2. I just got so fat swollen and emotional had horrible anxiety and hot flushes. Ah I had my in December so maybe another month or 2 without them. It’s probably first time in long time I’m looking forward to getting my periods 😂
Hope ur op went well. And thanks for getting back to me so quickly xx
