I was told this week I have endo and the consultant advised taking the pill to stop periods then having the lap in a few months if symptoms continue. But he said I would need i take the pill after this anyway as burning the endo would only last six months. I’m concerned about the effects of stopping period completely - has anyone else been advised the same? I’m not sure what to do so any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you

Yeah I was advised the same. I was told a progesterone only pill is best and that no periods helps slow the progression of the condition. Hope that helps xx
Sounds like the consultant strongly suspects it’s endo and wants to treat it as such. That sounds sensible to me.
If you are worried about taking hormones long term then you might want to request the lap to confirm the diagnosis. Once you are sure it’s endo, then taking the pill long term is one of the gentlest treatment. Some of the others are really strong stuff! You’ll need to do lots of reading to work out your options. The endo society uk website is a very good place to start.
I’ve been told I probably have mild endo and I’ve not had a lap either but to try the pill for 6 months without periods to see if it stops the endo symptoms. Then i will have another appointment with my gynaecologist to see if anything has changed.
I had the option to try the coil or implant too but opted for the pill. Been taking it a few days.
So i have had endo since i was 15 and now 33 i never had a period for 8 years as mine was pretty bad and i never even stopped my injections yes i did get the symptoms and i got the cramps the mood swings but the blood wasnt as bad as it was and then i went on to the pill different one as the doctor wanted me to have a rest i had some periods and i ended up in hospital so stayed on the pill for years now back on the injection where i am getting break out blood but not as bad iv had countless laps that now there dont want me to have any for a while and my endo came back after 3 weeks after my laps... stopping your periods might sound bad but for me it was a blessing coz when i was out and started bleeding it used to go thro my trousers the lot its your choice not the doctors also i know my periods after the 8 years came back normal so you know..
Also i want to say everybody is different which one thing works for one person might not work for another
I've ran the pill together for about 3 years and it's never stopped my period, just made me feel awful around the time it's meant to happen til I had to go in and beg to take it with breaks again! That's the thing with hormones, everyone's different! I've been told the coil is best at stopping periods but once again,it's still hormones, but it's my next step now the pill hasn't worked so there's always other things you can try, good luck! x
