Hi, I need advice about a full hysterectomy, as I have just been told that I can’t take Zoladex anymore as my bones are weak. The next stage is full hysterectomy. I am worried about how it affects you physically and the after effects. I heard your sex life is not as good and you can’t have internal oragasims, I know that should be the least of my worries but I don’t know if I will still feel like a woman after. Any advice I would really appreciate. Also am worried about symptoms returning after Zoladex as I have been pain free for year!
Hi Sarah, I had a full hysterectomy in July this year along with endo excision. It was the best for me as I no longer am in pain every day, and not having periods is so good - I used to flood for days.
I'm now just finished my second month of HRT which is really helping manage the hot flushes.
I have found no problems sexually, I still have urges and still organum, sometimes need some lube to help.
You might find once all the pain and worry has past you will much more like your old self, and can some help with menopause symptoms as needed.
Happy to chat through with you if it helps, big hugs xxxx
Thank you so much for your reply, it gave me so much hope. It’s been my biggest fear for years and now I have to finally have it. The time I have been on Zoladex I have felt like I have got my life back no pain and no mood swings like a miracle but not it’s affected my bones so no alternative. At least there is something to look forward to be pain free long term. I am so happy that it’s worked out the best for you
Hi I am scheduled for a total hysterectomy on 22nd December. I have also worried about the same things as you but have come to the conclusion that it has to be done. At the moment I do not want to have sex because of the pain so I am looking o the bright side that won't be a problem afterwards. I think it is completely normal to feel like we do but everyone I speak to who has had the surgery say it is the best thing they did. Hope you get sorted soon x
I had a total hysterectomy + BSO (removal of fallopian tubes and ovaries) plus excision of endo back in March. The key thing is whether or not they are recommending removal of ovaries because that is what really makes the difference. Are you taking HRT with the zoladex?
I can see that you have already got quite a few answers in response.
I have had a full hysterectomy and oopherectomy including the removal of the cervix.
I can'ttell you what you need to about the sex but i can tel you that it is the best decision i ever made.
After sufering for years with no real help from doctors or consultants i sort private help and had a marvellous consultant who gave me 2 options.
He 1st was to have the endometriosis removed as best as he could and it would give me a max of 5 years until i would probably need something similar done again. Or to have a hysterectomy of which there were varying options.
The best for me weighig up all the pros and cons was the total hysterectomy.
No pain since. I was only given the hrt estrogen only due to my young age for the saftey of muscles and bones.
I will have been womb, ovary and cervix free for a year this 24th November.
It has changed my life. Even my work colleagues family and friends say how muh better i am, how much hapier i am.
And i am. It was the best choice for me.
If you need to talk just send me a message. Everyone on here is here because we want to be. We want to help support eachother.
