Endometriosis ????

Hi, I am new to the group!

So I have been having symptoms for last couple of years, my doctor sent me for ultrasound scan which found gallstones so was referred to a consultant to have my gall bladder out, the consultant said she wasn’t convinced my pains and problems were gall bladder related so sent me for a colonoscopy which was clear for IBD and other diseases, since then I kept a diary and explained when I saw her for my results and she thinks my symptoms could be endometriosis anyway, the symptoms are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea (which comes a week before my period and ends a week either a few days before the end of my period or few days after, constant bloated tummy, tummy pains especially before my period it feels like my insides are being burnt to a crisp, during my period it feels like my uterus is about to drop out and feel swollen/heavy down below so while all this has been happening I started with back pain around March time, which has been so severe I’ve had weeks of work, it’s now a sciatic nerve pain, tingling and numbness in my leg, I’ve had months of physio and chiropractor sessions and nothing has helped, my gp Sent me for a mri and awaiting results for that but my thoughts is could this really be endo? Or something else? My periods aren’t unusually heavy but I’ve always suffered with painful periods since starting them but I’ve always assumed that it was normal 🙈 and then once I started oral contraceptive it masked the pains I’ve had 2 children since coming of it after my youngest I’ve done nothing but suffer with various problems and I honestly don’t think I can take anymore 😣

Sorry for the long post 😖 x

I must add painful bowel movements everyday, and I go upto 8 times a day before my problems I only went once a day now am constantly on the loo!

Hi Kirsty,

Sorry to hear your pains.

Yes I am afraid all these symptoms could be endo-related.

Your symptoms make me think you have the endo located in the rectovaginal septum as well as on some nerves around there thereby affecting your bowel movements in a cyclical manner as well as producing back and sciatic pain.

The good news is that it is a slow growing kind of endo and the current thinking is that it is not related to retrograde menstruation, so once you will be in the good hands of a BSGE excision expert (ONLY!) he will be able to remove, scrape, and shave the endo, after which you should feel long-term’ish relief (maybe even long-term without the ‘ish).

Good luck and do not let them fob you off, You clearly have some internal issues that need sorting and the first step is to do a laparoscopy to go and see (there r no tests for endo and it can go undetected on mri and ultrasounds)

Thank you for your reply!

I was starting to think I was being paranoid and no1 cares gp just keeps shoving medication my way for the back pain but nothing relives it at all, am struggling to sleep at night and on my 3rd week of sick leave and my employer is getting arsey with me coz I can’t tell how am going to be from 1 day to the next so hard to update them! Am just so over the pain now and I know people have worse things wrong with them but I can’t cope anymore, it’s dibilitating and no1 seems to understand how much pain I am in coz I just get in with it and try to shield my children and partner from the pain I am in! Just need answers and it’s like waiting for the tooth fairy to come!

Again thank you for advising me! Much appreciated.
