Hello Shelly,

I've just been diagnosed with endometriosis including on the bowels, adhesions causing all to fuse together and on Douglas pouch. So far I've had a consultation, then needed MRI scan. Following the results I now need a sigmoidoscopy which will tell how much of the endometriosis is in my bowel apparently. I have two treatment options: laparoscopy with surgical excision to remove endo and adhesions etc; or the laparoscopy plus bowel resection surgery if it has truly penetrated deep into bowel.

Anyway that's my understanding of the situation.

Hope that helps.

Best,

Halumi

Depends on the degree of bowel involvement. In order of increased severity you can have

1 bowel shaved on the surface only

2 disc removal, a small bit bowel removed and then suture together.

3 bowel resection in most severe cases with or without stoma bag depends on the position of the resection.

You should discuss this with your bowel surgeon on you consultation. He/ she can give you a better idea.

I have bowel endo confirmed by ultrasound and a lap. I've also had a sigmoidoscopy which was clear and it's my understanding that they can't tell how bad the bowel endo is from this as they're looking at the inside of the bowel, not the bowel wall.

Surgery is usually the treatment, it is rare to need a bowel resection or stoma but I've also been told they won't know until they carry out the surgery whether one will be needed or not.

I'm sorry I got kind of mixed up reading your post .

Did you say they did a sigmoidoscopy and saw it or they did not see it that way ?

I'm not sure that it can be seen from inside the bowel unless it invaded the wall.

I could be wrong . I have not heard of that so much as I have on the outside of it making kinks and knots and crap that way

I'm just hearing about all the bowel resection stuff .

Scary stuff .

I sure would double check and check again for reviews on which dr does it .

You want the best results.

And you may only have one good shot .
