Coil and no periods.

Hello.

I had a laparoscopy about a month ago and got diagnosed with endometriosis. During the operation I had a coil fitted, before that I was on the pill and my periods were regular when I took the break. However I still haven't had a period or any sign of bleeding since the operation. But recently I have been feeling rather sick, tired and have had cramps and pains for the first time since the op. I know it's unlikely, but could it be possible that I'm pregnant?

I'm just worried, especially as I didn't receive a lot of info or help at the hospital.

Hi I've not had the coil but as far as I know the cramps etc could be the coil settling in. From what I've read it can sometimes take a good few months. The lack of period could be down to the surgery as it can play havoc with your cycle.

Yes I was thinking that. About a week after my op I had severe period like pain and they put it down to contractions due to the coil. But at the moment it is like dull aches and aching at the hips and legs.

What coil did you have, if it's the mirena then it's normal to not be bleeding as it can completely stop bleeding. Also once a coil is fitted you can get pains from that for quite a while, up to 6 months, while it settles.

Hi there, I had the coil fitted for endo also and from the day it went until the day it came out I never had a period. It can be quite uncomfortable for the first couple of weeks whilst it settles in (a bit like period pain, cramps, tiredness etc) but once it adjusts that should go away. I know everyone is different but the 18 months that I had the coil in there were the best pain free months I have ever had. The only thing you need to be wary of is infection. If at any point you begin to feel unwell, have a temperature, pain, bleeding etc then you must get it checked. This was the reason I had to have mine out, but if I could have, I would have had it again. Hope you are feeling better soon and it works for you x

Thank you! That is very reassuring. It just worries me as I didn't get a lot of info st the hospital and when I've been told o should be able to feel it, I can't so it's all new to me! Only being 19 and paranoid doesn't help either

It can all be really scary and especially after a laparoscopy when you feel absolutely terrible anyway. Once the pain of the coil settled down, the lack of periods after the horrendous endo ones really made life a bit more enjoyable again. I had mine inserted under anaesthetic also and I think they can put them In quite a bit higher than then if you have them inserted whilst awake. I could never feel mine once they were in. Im sure things will settle down. There is probably still quite a bit of inflammation in there after your lap which is why it is taking a bit longer. Hot water bottle and anti inflammatory' will hopefully take some of the pain away for you. Will keep my fingers crossed you are feeling a bit more comfortable soon x

My coil was fitted in January. I had one period in January, and since then I haven't had one. But around the time my period should come in do get cramps just like period pains. And I am told this is because the body is still ovulating. So this may be what you're experiencing?

Or it could just be your coil settling down x
