Hello, I would have thought he would be allowed to stay until you go down for the surgery but every hospital is different. From my experience I have been home within 3hrs of coming out of theatre but it will all depend on your body and if your nhs or private. I was fortunate to be able to go private so my boyfriend was allowed to stay throughout the entire day and I could leave whenever I wanted.

I hope everything goes okay for you and you get the answers you are wanting x

They won't ask him to leave - There will be a waiting room where he can wait as long as he wants... In my experience, they did not come to talk to me after the surgery -that was left for the follow up appointment (they need to biopsy things that they found).

On average, surgery takes about an hour, recovery takes about an hour and you can go home from there once you have gone pee. Plan for a minimum of 3 hours (In my experience). I was there for longer as the pain meds kept lowering my oxygen levels...but I was still able to go home that night.

Hi Tboag,

I had my lap yesterday but of a surprise as it was someones cancellation but its done and they wouldn't let my husband stay he just dropped me off :( not good for someone who was very nervous :(

They did tell me very briefly what they found but said will go into more at follow up in 6 week xxx

I went in for 1 was home at 7.30pm x

Hi Tboag,

My experience was the same as pen's I've had 3 laps now and my partner has never been allowed to stay for more than a few mins it's always been a quick drop off into the ward, and although the surgeon will normally come and see you before the op it's usually just a quick chat as he will have already discussed everything with you at a previous apt, and afterwards he might come and tell you how it went but normally they just leave it to your follow up apt 6wks later which is a pain.

I have never had a lap where I have been home the same day always the next morning especially if I have been on the afternoon list but I suppose it's how you feel yourself afterwards.

Good Luck I hope it all goes well x

Hi there. First of all good luck! It seems everyone's experiences of these things is different. For mine, my husband was allowed to stay with me right until I was taken to be anaesthetised. He came into the chats with the surgeons and the nurse beforehand. My advice would be to take him along until you're told he has to leave!

Post-op I had one of the surgeons come to explain what they'd done but, if you're anything like me, you'll be so groggy you won't remember most of it! I was lucky that hubby came back during that chat. My follow-up appointment was only 3 weeks after and they went through it all again to be sure I understood.

Hope it goes well.

Thanks girls, I can't stand the thought of not knowing what they found and did for 6 weeks, that's so unfair.

I definitely think each hospital differs in whether you other half can stay with you. My last lap was done through book and choose and was in a private hospital, with my own room, in which my husband camped down for the day and made the most of day time tv 😉 my lap before was on the nhs and he had to drop me off and they called him when I was back on the ward. Because I've had so many, ive developed some weird ritual of wanting to know the time and what "work" I've had done as soon as I wake up in recovery. Usually the nurses there will have your notes so will be able to give you a rough idea. I ask the time because in my head it gauges what Theyve found. My longest op was 2 and a half hours (excision surgery) and my shortest just 30 mins (this was my very first diagnostic operation, where endo was found but not treated) your surgeon will definitely come and see you after the operation, and hopefully by then your husband will be back with you, but even if he's not and you can't remember what's been said, the nurses who discharge you will definitely be able to tell you if they did or didn't find endo. I wish you all the luck in the world, and hope you get the answers you deserve. X

No reason why he can't stay with u at all! I doubt i woule have stayed for surgery if he had to leave me. Goodluck!

I had my lap yesterday. Hubby was allowed to come in for visiting 2 - 4pm but then had to wait in waiting room. I was in at 7.30am and doc came round at 6.30pm. I left after that. Hubby wasn't around when doctor was there but i was feeling ok and think I took most of it in! you could always take notes x
