Got lap next week what's best clothing/pyjamas to wear
I went into H&M and got some trendy maternity leggings. They are actually my nicest legging and still wear them because I still get a lot of bloating and pain on tummy. So see it as an investment. I know it's not exactly jimmy choos but hey...
And better to bring a nice soft nightdress rather than pjs, in my experience. X
Nice loose warm things that are easy to get on. I just had my 3rd lap a week ago and I bought a pair of oversized "loungewear" PJs that look like jogging bottoms... And a nice loose top and a cosy hoody! Leggings are a godsend, loose comfy dresses with leggings have been so comfy this last week once I wanted to look a bit more presentable but still felt sore. X
Loose clothing is great. One thing I hadn't thought about before my lap was underwear. I've since seen people advise on here to buy some cheap large knickers. My tummy was bloated so this would've been a great idea if I'd have thought about. It! I couldn't do my bra up when I left hospital as the pain from the gas under my ribs couldn't cope with the extra squeeze of my bra. I found that a nightie rather than pj's was best too as I wanted to protect the scars from a waistband
Agree with you, well done to remember the underwear!! I also got cheap pack of maternity knickers from same shop. They are just shaped perfectly for this purpose Xx
Long night shirt or nightie for hosp - it is possible you will have a catheter fitted when you have the lap and if you only take PJs - they re not design compatable with having a tube to remove pee. So long light shirt is much better also if you are post op bleeding down below - even with sanitary towels there can be leaks - so having a long shirt to cover up any accident is always handy - or a dressing gown to preseve your dignity and keep you warm too as you take your hourly stroll around the ward to shift the gas before you get to go home.
Travelling home is another matter - you need loose fitting clothes - tummy will be swollen and the belly button waist area sore from lap hole - so nothing that digs in to wounds is good.
No zip up flies and buttons or belts - losely elasticated leggings or tracksuit bottoms or even jeans but not done up. Take a cushion to roll in to your tummy if you need to fart or whatever on the way home - dignity out the window - get that gas out of you as quick as you can shift it - even if you are in front of the Queen herself.
Don't wear anything precious or new that you don't want spoiled.
Have a packet of wetwipes with you - your tummy will be covered in disinfectant dye and it stains clothes - but should wipe off quite easily with a wet flannel or wetwipes before you put your own clothes on.
but there may be leaks from down below for a few days of post op bleeding so might be a good idea to have some thick sanitary towels on standby in your washbag too. Pant liners probably won't be enough. you never know - prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
And of course have them in stock at home too - along with extra plasters and wadding and antiseptic gel or creams for the wounds because ther could be 3-5 of them and they need keeping clean and bug free. after a few days when the healing is well on its way skin wise - you can leave them open to fresh air - but if you re wearing clothes then bit of a cushion of protection from a plaster or micropore and wadding will help.
I've Had 4 laps n am going in f hysterectomy tomorrow and am taking my onesie with me . Also I use catheters all the time and u can just feed it down the leg of your onesie.
I wore loose fitting yoga pants not tied.
just normal pyjamas - you will be in a hospital goonie when you have you lap then you will change into own stuff once its done
Thanku everyone for ur replies hope u all are well xxx
Hope u get on ok i got home last night coz have the advantage of I use a catheter anyway so u can't keep me in hosp just because I use a catheter. I trying to find where to sit in the front room at the minute as I went on the lounger and couldn't get bak up - one thing I will advise is always have a pillow to hand to hold on your stomach coz it helps ease the discomfort whilst coughing.
