I am 20 years of age and have only had a ultrasound done to find that I have endo
I had a transvaginal ultrasound done 3 we... - Endometriosis UK
I had a transvaginal ultrasound done 3 weeks ago and endo was found do I need to get a lascopcy done, since it was only found in the test.
A TVUS will not say to what extent the endo is in your body or what damage it may have caused or be threatening to cause, it won't indicate how deep it is either. All a scan can do is hint that there are signs of endo. Usually in the form of adhesions sticking organs out of place, or the scan shows an endometioma blood filled cyst.
The only way to be certain that it is endo and to map the locations of each endo lesion and to have them lasered or cut out is by having a laparoscopy.
But it is your decision at the end of the day. If having an op in the next year is problematic because you have exams at uni for example, then you might prefer to delay pushing for an op till afterwards if the endo is not bothering you or you only have mild symptoms of pain which can so far be controlled by regular pain killers.
but if your daily pain levels re really getting to be a problem or you are anxious to preserve any remaining fertility then you may feel that waiting any longer is not worth the risks.
You will have to face surgery at some stage soon, and the way the NHS waiting lists are - it is probably advisable to get cracking - get yourself on the waiting lists asap and get the op done when they can fit you in, and then try and sort out other commitments around the op and the recovery time.
thank you for you advice it has been a great help. The other question I have is, do you know if endo cause swelling in the abdominal area? I have had bad swelling in my abdominal for quite a long time and I was just wondering if that is from the endo?
I was diagnosed this way 2 years ago and my GP has recommended a second opinion as my Gyni won't do a Laporoscopy and my pain levels and depression are out of control. Seeing a new surgeon next week. I also have pain and swelling. Good luck Gracelove21.
thanks for your help!
