Basically i had my lap 16days ago and today two of my stiches have come out. they haven't dissolved at all. My belly button stich is still full attached to my skin with some form of hard black thing also attached to my skin and stich. My first question is, is that normal? I have been really clean and really careful to make sure they don't get infected. My second question is, when will my belly button stich either fall out or dissolve? iv read its usually 7-14days and its been more than that. And is it normal that the two other stiches fell out? Or should they have dissolved?
Hi ladies hope you a feeling pain free an... - Endometriosis UK
Hi ladies hope you a feeling pain free and ok this evening. I have a questions for you lovely Endo sufferers.
Hi, I was told that mine would dissolve and only one of them did, I lost one of my stitches, woke up one morning and though 'what is that little blue thing in the bed?' my belly button stitch didn't dissolve and after 3 weeks I went to my GP and the nurse took it out for me, the skin had started to grow over it and it was really painful to remove so if I were you I'd get on the phone to your surgery and ask if the nurse could remove it for you. Don't know what the hard black thing might be but it could be some dead skin, best to get it looked at sooner rather than later as the longer you leave it the more painful it will be to have it removed because it doesn't sound like its going to dissolve.
Take care
xx
Thankyou so much for your information i am going to ring them tomorrow. As i think its going to be painful as it looks at the moment as it looks nothing like my other two does or did lol. See if they can either fit me in tomorrow or on Monday next week. Thankyou we thought that it would just dissolve obviously not haha.
Thankyou Hun and you too don't over exert yourself and i hope you have a relatively pain free weekend. Take care.
Hi my last stitch fell out today 1 month from my lap the others I took out but this one was stuck it fell out just before my dr appointment. Did they use glue? as mine looked almost black from the blood mixed in with it. X
Not a clue i haven't been told anything other than i have Endo. But thankyou Hun
Hey there don't worry mine fall off after 3 weeks! But if u see redness, ooze, pain and inflammation around the area make appointment to see the nurse. I hope all goes well for u Hun....xxxx
Thankyou everyone and moff_cat it was pointless, he didn't have a clue and just said i had Endo and that was it, so I'm still none the wiser but i have a gynea appointment next week on Thursday and well he better give me some dam good answers.
Stitches take WEEKS more like a couple of months to disappear. You can cut them back carefully to skin level now if they are sticking up and getting caught on things.
The glue plug should be inside the skin - superglue- holding the hole together and the stitch is on the surface to stop the glue plug popping out.
Warning- do not mess with it, remove the stitch and allow that plug to pop out..even if it feels weird and you really want to meddle with it and get it out, please don't.
As soon as that plug pops out and opens the hole-- you are heading for an infection, which can mean months of antibiotics to clear it up.
I did exactly that many years back- with a belly button hole plug, and 2 months of trying to combat a wound infection taught me a harsh lesson.
Latest lap op...i left everything alone. kept them clean, dry and dressed and let them disappear on their own. The glue plugs do disappear also -eventually - so you are not left with a solid lump there, but it does take time.
Bellybutton hole is the biggest one, so if that plug pops out, get to hosp and get it reglued and stitched again before it has a chance to get infected. It gives access to the tummy cavity and it's a big cavernous area to get an infection in. Don't mess with it !!!!
I would leave it like Impatient said, if it's not red, inflamed or sore don't mess with it. I waited a couple of months to see whether my dissolvable stitches would dissolve ... They didn't and skin was starting to grow over the top but luckily I managed to remove them myself without any problems because my skin had healed underneath. I'm with the other ladies though, it sounds to me like it's the superglue mixed in with your blood. It should come off by itself but if it doesn't, go back to your GP xx
Right ok thankyou very much so should i not pull out the belly button stich should I just leave it all together.
