When I was in my twenties I was diagnosed with endometriosis, then went on to have two beautiful children ( after two horrible events of pre-eclampsia). Now in my early forties, this year ive been having a series of overwhelming gyny symptoms again, ive just found out im also pregnant again! I went to the epu to discover I also have an ovarian cyst which has grown in 2mths from my last screening. My maternal grandmother had ovarian cancer and unfortunately died as a result of this. My gp and hospital i feel are being unsupportive so consequently I really dont know about either option, but the clock is ticking and I need to make a decision but not ive had all the facts I need I dont even know what type of cyst it is!

Hi

I just wanted to say hi and I'm sorry to hear you feel you're in such a dilemma and the doctors aren't being supportive and completely understand why you are so worried. Did the hospital mention the size of the cyst at all? Just because in pre-menupausal women its very very common to get functional cysts and if smaller than 5cm the guidelines advise the doctors to leave them alone as long as there arent other symptons (eg severe constant pain, sickness etc) as they typically resolve themselves within 3 months - these cysts appear during a cycle, are typically 2-5 cm in size and typically disappear themselves within 3 months through ovulation, if your cyst developed the cycle you got pregnant you haven't then had any further cycles to help it resolve on its own. One sonography told me that if she had a random sample of 100 women at least 50 of them could have one of these cysts at any one time, that its a completely normal part of our cycles and it would be extremely unlikely for any of them to have any issues. However, lots of us on here know all too well that these cysts can cause a lot of pain even when considered small by the doctors! My last scan I had a 4cm cyst one side and 3cm cyst the otherside, my ovaries where completely stuck and embedded to the sides of my pelvis so really painful!!

You don't say what options the doctors have given you but if you feel you aren't getting the right advice it may be worth getting a private appointment to get a 2nd opinion and you should be able to have the appointment within a week, it would be about £180-350 but you would get 45-60 mins with the specialist and they would probably do another scan, it may be what you need to ensure you get the best advice and support xxxx

Hi hayls great advice thank you. I think I will look for a private appointment. The cyst is 4cm as of 2 weeks ago, but it feels larger now. I had a scan 2 months ago and was told the ovaries were clear so this is why im concerned. I live in constant lower back and tummy pains and just feel totally rotten. Ive asked the nhs doctors to reassess my case but I feel this maybe a waste of time. As much as I dont wish this on anyone, thank you for sharing your experience with me, it means a lot to me xxxx
