Egfr further reduced but everything else ok- no need to worry?

I have been having tests with my gp following him finding my egfr was a little low. In May it was at 70 with creatinine at 85 umol/l. I had tests done last week and my egfr has gone down to 53 and creatinine up to 106 umol/l (reference range 44-80). My urine creatinine is 6.0 umol/l (8-12.5 umol/l). My urine albumin was 3.0 mg/l (no reference range given for this and I am not sure if this is good or bad).

My hbA1c, fbc is fine and totally within normal limits.

My ultrasound scan showed no kidney abnormalities.

Apart from my creatinine and egfr, the only other things raised were my platlets at 507 (150-400) and my serum alkaline phosphatase at 143 ui/l 30-130). Blood pressure was 124/80.

My gp said he isn’t too worried but he does want me to see a specialist so I am waiting for referral which he says could be a month and half. As my egfr has gone down so much in just 4 months I was wondering whether I should be worried or not? If everything else is ok and it’s just my creatinine high then probably my kidneys are working ok?

To add, I workout 3 times a week, lifting heavy, around 15000 to 20000kg per session. I weight 70kg and have an athletic frame. I had read about muscle breakdown affecting creatinine readings but I am not sure as to what extent it does...

Hello Dee2019, try not to worry too much as your GP doesn't seem to be unduly worried.

When you are getting ready for the specialist appointment don't forget to take all your questions with you and someone else too, so that they can remember what has been said.

Also ask about seeing a renal dietician so that you can discuss your dietary needs with them and work out a diet specific for yourself.

Are there any of our very experienced members willing to help reassure you and give you support please?

Do keep posting and letting us all know how you are getting on.

Best wishes,

MAS Nurse & Moderator.
