When did you find out you had CKD? How did it progress?

I had elevated serum creatinine levels and I am worried. All other tests are normal. I am 22 years old. My creatinine has been 1.4, 1.54, 1.7, 1.4, 1.41. Creatinine clearance is 136.6. My ultra sound and CT scans are normal. No protein in urine.

What was your situation and how have you progressed. Right now doctors say I do not have kidney disease and things are normal but I am worried about my kidneys later on in life. I think that is my biggest health concern for the future. Any experience or advice is appreciated!

I was 75 when diagnosed with CKD level 3 in 2016. I was put on renal diet and exercise routine. The progression of the disease has slowed down.

"Out of the blue" I started having high blood pressure. That was my first sign. Doctor's started doing blood and urine tests after and found my kidney function was at 50%. I was otherwise healthy with no diabetes or heart issues. I then had a renal arteriogram to see if I had a blockage. I didn't so had a kidney biopsy. I have FSGS - focal segmental glomerulus sclerosis. This was 1992. I was listed on the UNOS kidney transplant list in 1998 and had a transplant from a 16 year old deceased donor in 1999. I am doing well for nearly 20 YEARS with a stable creatinine of 0.9.

If that happened today, they would refer me to a nephrologist and a renal dietician. For many on this site the diet change has kept their CKD stable.

If you had CKD your other labs should be abnormal. A creatinine blood test on it's own does not show how well your kidneys are functioning.

Good point about other labs having to be abnormal in addition to eGFR to be CKD
