GFr 55 and dropping

GFR dropped from 68 to 55 in 12 mos,, but also noticed a recent spike in blood in my urine.

Can this be a kidney infection? I am perfect wieight and height and dont smoke or drink . I am trying to change my diet to a more renal friendly approach.

Eliminated colas! increase cranberry juice! Cut back on red meats and replace with some mushrooms and chickens.

Well you certainly should see your doc. If you have enough blood in your urine to see visually, obviously this is not normal. But I'm confused. You must already be seeing a doctor if you know you GFR dropped. He/she should have advised you about the blood too. But specifically could it be an infection? Sure. Or a Kidney stone, or, or, or. Go to the doc and find out what is going on. Best to you.

Hi, naplesjr. For blood in your urine, you need to see a doctor. For GFR dropping, the only factor I see is diet since you are at a perfect weight for your height. ALL animal protein, including fish and dairy are bad for CKD and will raise creatinine and lower GFR. My wife and I started a vegan/vegetarian (plant based) approach to diet on 2/1/19. My wife's GFR went from 66 to 78 in less than two months after starting diet. My lab tests will be done on 4/22 and I hope to see a GFR increase. Also, drink half of your body weight in water (in fluid ounces, not pounds LOL).

If you want the latest and most complete book on CKD and a proper CKD diet all backed up by medical case studies included in the book (which you can skip or skim) buy Stopping Kidney Disease by Lee Hull on Amazon - released on January 2019. Good luck.

A urinary tract infection and a kidney stone are things that can cause blood in your urine. If the blood is visible you definitely need to see your doctor. This is nothing to fool with. See your doctor and get this checked out!

Time to head to doctor. I had sizable kidney stone that damaged my kidney, never saw blood but doctor saw microscopic amount. Blood could be from anywhere.
