Gastroperisis

Hi there. New member. My husband is dealing with wavering between stage 4 and 5 (numbers are always different) so if I’m in the wrong group please point me in the right direction! Along with this he is type 1 and has had silent heart attacks. Currently his biggest hurdle seems to be dealing with gastroperisis which the dr’s aren’t super focusing on. Which is frustrating. These vomiting episodes are what sends him into a tail spin of high blood pressure, high glucose and ultimately a silent heart attack. Has anyone else here dealt with gastroperisis and what was your treatment? We’re you able to control it?

I take a Zantac first thing in morning and found a probiotic to be helpful for. I also use an extended bolus about 50% upfront and 50% extended over 2 hrs. Lower fat meals sometimes help. I've been type 1 60 yrs and on a pump 12 yrs.

Sorry, hit the wrong button... The diet is how I manage the stomach issues. Low fat low fiber is a must. Trial and error on foods that will not cause a flare. Keep a journal of what he eats and how it affects him. GP is tricky and what is deemed safe one day may not be the case the next time. I have struggled with diet due to my many different diseases and the conflicting diet guidelines for each condition. As if life hasn't been hard enough.

Doctor put me on Reglan years ago and that helped with digestion until the side effects got the best of me. Good luck.

You have all the same ailments as my husband. He is currently back in the hospital due to a bad bout of GP putting him into CKD. Hopefully he should be home in a couple of days. At least this time he didn’t have a silent heart attack like last time. I was just saying that to the Endo yesterday. The diets for his renal failure, type 1 and now GP are all so conflicting. I will definitely keep a journal! Appreciate your advice!
