NIH Article on managing CKD
Concerning the use of ACE inhibitors. I have 4 physicians. A gp, kidney doctor, cardiologist, urologist. I was taking 20 mg of an ACE (lisinopril) daily and my blood pressure was well under control. BELOW 120/70. But many recent studies have shown that ACE actually DECREASES your egfr. So they reduced (in concurrence with each other) to reduce my dose to 10mg a day. My blood pressure actually REDUCED even more with taking a lower dosage. Which they say shows what a dramatic effect an ACE has on the kidney. It just shows that you can find a study which supports more use of one thing, and also find a study which supports less use of the same thing. And which one is right??? Who knows. Try this, don't try this, do that, don't do that, etc., etc. I'm 68 and to the point of frustration I just try to use common sense with diet, exercise and blood pressure control and to stop getting into the minutiae. I am stage 3b. I am getting close to the point of life where you start to think of the inevitable. Even without CKD.
