My Egfr has been between 59 and 62 since 2016. I am 51 years old. My blood work is fine. Potassium sodium and urea all within range. Did another test just yesterday and my Egfr is now 79. I've been on low salt diet. Loads of Vegetables.

Hi It sounds as if you are doing well to raise your GFR, Keep it going. It has got me thinking again to eat more veg, less salt.

Well certainly you should be happy with your improvements. But to increase your egfr 17 to 20 points just from diet?? I am anxious to see your next test. But sometimes people get a little too carried away about the diet (not you). To limit salt intake is certainly a very smart idea. But how low salt works is really not a direct affect on the kidney. What I'm saying is lowering salt intake affects the retention of fluids in your body. More salt, more fluids. More fluids, higher blood pressure and stress on the heart. Higher blood pressure, damage to the kidney and its performance. Kidney function equals egfr results. But the body DOES require salt, just stay within daily requirements. If a person has high blood pressure (not just a couple of points high) and lowers salt, yes the pressure will reduce and over time the egfr will increase, although 20 points as yours did is extreme. Certainly just reducing salt is not going to cause this increase. Have you also changed medications, or started to exercise, or increased you water intake, lost weight on purpose,??

That is really great, well done. It is so hard to stick to a good renal diet and exercise regime but you have shown what results can be obtained. Can I ask what was the cause of your kidney problems? Was it IGAN or some other autoimmune system problem by any chance?

Not what you're looking for?
