Prednisone for lowering creatinine.

Has anyone ever been prescribed prednisone to lower creatinine values? Thank you for any information!

My son’s doctor had also mentioned that if there is sudden and sustained increase in creatinine in future than he may prescribe predinisone,

Hi. Yes I was prescribed it for 3 months, hard going , especially on the high doses, but it did the trick. Raised by egfr from 23 to 50. Can't remember the exact creatinine values but needless to say it lowered by loads.

Prednisone is one of the drugs you take after you have a transplant also. It is a steroid, so is good at removing inflammation, including in your kidney. It calms everything down, so to speak. But it does have side effects, but usually is not too bad if on it for a short period of time.

I was on it for 10 of the last 18 years after my transplant. It can weaken your bones. That was what was happening to me and was able to stop it

Hi Grams 70, like another of your repliers, I was prescribed Prednisolone which is a Steroid drug, known for it's ability to reduce inflammation. I had had a severe allergic reaction to Omeprazole (a drug to reduce production of stomach acid), and had to take the steroids for 3 months, on a gradually reducing dose (starting with 30mg/day reducing by 5mg every 2 weeks until finished on 5mg/day and then stop) This had the effect of recovering my kidney function from an egfr of 13 to a current egfr of 39. I have come to the end of the steroid treatment now but it's had some knock-on effects with my arthritis and energy levels which I thought would recover after I stopped taking the steroid. It no doubt will have reduced my creatinine. I wish you luck with your treatments.

I was prednisone for colitis for several months and many times for other things also. I have ckd and every time I was on prednisone by renal labs were always so much better creat/bun and my gfr would be higher also around high 30's. I love prednisone but it is not a good medication for a length of time, it could be damaging to other organs and the with drawls are miserable once you come off the med. If you gave any joint pain it really helps! But once you come off inflammation sets back in and all he'll breaks loose. My gfr is now 28 and creat is 1.8 with bun around 58.
