Congratulations to you both on having a baby. My experience is different; I was already on dialysis when I got pregnant, which is rare. I did still pass urine. Once the baby was born, that stopped almost straight away. Pregnancy puts a huge strain on the kidneys and any residual function I still had went after the pregnancy. Your wife should be prepared for her kidney function to decline. Sorry I can't be more posotive; it sounds like she has a lot to deal with already. Good luck.
Hi Morsh, I’m 26 and my GFR declined rapidly at the end of my pregnancy so I ended up being induced. Since then it’s carried on declining I’m currently at stage 3 CKD and have IGA Nephropathy. They’ve tried me on various blood pressure tablets which haven’t worked, I’ve had a kidney biopsy (which confirmed my diagnosis) and since May a hell of a lot of blood tests. I’m due to see a new consultant next week as unfortunately over the past month my kidney function has reduced by a further 6%. From the information I’ve read patients tend to respond well to blood pressure treatment (obviously my body isn’t wanting to!) so depending on her prognosis I think this tends to be the first port of call if the BP is high. My mums had a laparoscopic bladder augmentation and she’s had no problems whatsoever post op, she’s a lot older (69) but she’s absolutely fine after having it done and it hasn’t affected her life at all, just made it better in the long run.
Please don’t panic, make sure she’s got a decent nephrologist and they’re keeping on top of blood tests and send me a message if you need to.
