House Bill Seeks to Improve Early Detection, Treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease.

On Sept. 28, representatives introduced a bill, HR 3867, which would establish a Medicare pilot program to help improve care and outcomes for patients with chronic kidney disease. The legislation seeks to demonstrate that early detection of CKD, combined with effective and coordinated care that engages patients in the decision-making process, can improve clinical results and lower health care spending.

The bill was introduced by Representatives Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., Linda Sánchez, D-Calif, George Holding, R-N.C., and G.K. Butterfield, D-N.C.

“Slowing the disease’s progression to end-stage renal disease will help keep people healthier longer and drive Medicare’s costs down,” said Sánchez. “I urge my colleagues to support this legislation so we can save lives and keep Medicare’s costs in check – at the same time.”

The bill is the result of a multidisciplinary and collaborative effort that was initiated by National Kidney Foundation. The legislation would direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services to design a voluntary pilot program that ties Medicare payment to improvements in the early detection of chronic kidney disease and the care these patients receive, NKF said in a release. The pilot would be practitioner-led and supported by a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Can you provide the link to HB 3867? We need to get the word to all the politicians to support this & any other bill that's out there. !

Apparently, there are millions like me with no known cause of CKD & it doesn't appear that there is much research.

I can't help but wonder with all the toxic chemicals in our air & groundwater polluting our drinking water of course they add more chemicals to purify the water if that might be the cause. If they knew that would be another issue with no cure

Here is the link that will help you track the progress of the bill. I'd contact your local congressman at this point since the bill is originating in the House. If it passes there and goes to the Senate I'll post that along with the Senate tracking information.

After reading your post and listening to the news this morning I saw that the present administration has had the EPA secretary reverse the previous administration's policy on coal plant emissions so that will make this bills likelihood of passing more problematic as well as adding to the pollution in the air and water. To my way of thinking this makes it even more important for early detection and treatment. Of course, that's just my opinion and I could be wrong.
