Another outstanding and informative article. Definitely worth printing out, including all of the supplementary links!

An aside...Cream of Wheat or generic brands are iron rich which is excellent for kidney patients!

Thanks for sharing! :)

can't find cream of wheat in UK, and I'm eating oatmeal so that I can keep my cholesterol down... and it does work. You can also fry oatmeal made as thick porridge and set in the fridge, and it's lovely with Parmesan cheese.

Never heard of frying oatmeal as a thick porridge. Please share recipe. It sounds good and a new way to eat oatmeal.

You just make porridge as per normal, thick rather than thin so it will set. Pour into a container so that you can flatten it down to about an inch or a bit more thick and put it in the fridge to set. Then you can take it out, cut it up, even into chips and fry in olive oil in a frying pan. An alternative would be to add some grated parmesan at the porridge making stage and a bit of salt and pepper. It's delicious and great if you get tired of ordinary porridge. It brought my cholesterol down, so that I could justifiable tell my doctor where she could put the statin she had so casually offered me...

Hmm. I am going to ask my close friend. She lives in Southend by Sea.

If you have Amazon, see if they have it. Cream of Wheat doesn't spoil or have short expiration dates as Mayo, so buy several boxes.

I like the yellow box 110 calories!

Let me know what you come up with!

I recently had an appointment with my kidney doctor. She yelled at me because my phosphorous level was too low. She told me that with CKD you need excess phosphorous. (contrary to this article that too much is a bad thing). But she tries to keep most of my levels of everything in the "normal" range. So bring me to normal levels she said the easiest ways is simple. Just have a 6oz container of flavored yogurt daily. I did so. Two weeks later a blood test. Phosphorous level was "normal".

Guess everyone is different and might require higher phosphorus in their renal diet .

I have been advocating for the food industry to be required to put on all labels the amount of phosphorus in foods.
