symptoms stage 3
I was offered Quinine for leg cramps but refused it as I heard it affected the
kidneys ? [ I have stage 3 kidney disease ] My sister in USA said it's banned there.
Hi
My doctor took me off quinine as it is not good for the kidneys........
Symptoms vary person to person. Most can be managed though.
I find putting my feet up when I sit down, helps with swelling......also a soak in a nice warm bath.....
I am a 44 year old female and I have slight water retention on inside of both my ankles!! I had a well woman check in April and the nurse told me i am am superfit and whatever i am doing is working so carry on doing it. I had noticed slight water retention in my ankles probably around Oct time (when wearing boots and the indentation of the boots stayed when boots were removed). A couple of weeks ago for no apparent reason my left foot started hurting (the outer edge) whilst walking, i gave it a good week or so to sort itself out but with no end insight i went to the dr's. Whilst the Dr couldnt tell me what was causing my foot pain he did tell me it was nothing permanent but said the water retention (only slight) could be my kidney not functioning as it should be, so looking at the results from my well woman tests in April...he said that whilst the number was within the normal range of 60-90 they were still on the low side and had dropped from my previous results 7 years ago. So he suggested a further test to see if there had been any further decrease since April. SO, i went to get my GFR results again today to find it has deteriated even further since April (when it was 66 ) and now its 58. The tears came flooding out and the DR seemed very uninterested and told me not to worry??!!!! I left the dr's in tears, My 2 year was old asking me if im OK...everyone was looking at me as i was passing them trying so hard to hide my tears. I am absolutely devastated, thinking the worst and dont want to tell my husband or children!
I asked for a printout of the results ( i dont know why)?? And i asked if theres anything i can do to increase the number but the only thing the DR said was to stop taking my supplements (omega 3, spirulina, MSM, Tan optimizers, imedeen & Flaxseed oil) and eat a good varied basic diet.I stopped taking my contraceptive pill (Zeletta) over a week ago too as i read that can cause water retention. Oh one other thing, i do remember my feet feeling very cold around the house a lot of time during the winter months...when nobody else's did? And i do feel tingling in my ankles & legs sometimes, which i now understand is prob toxins my kidney hasnt removed or bad circulation?
I think i am more in shock with being told very recently i am superfit - always had perfectly normal blood pressure nothing except a small amount of water which didnt bother me at all on my inner ankles. I switched from low quality table salt to pink salt (himalayan) around 6 mths ago for the health benefits. I am a little overweight so i have started exercising a bit more (which seems to have reduced the swelling in my ankles). I just want to carry on as normal as i feel so perfectly normal!!!! I have to go back in 10 days for a repeat test .....if still low then a refereal to the renal unit he said. Just a sidethought but maybe the 400mg Ibuprofen prescribed for 10 days (for the pain in my foot) had an impact on my numbers?? I have put so much info in as someone reading it may pick up on something the DR's missed???
My serum creatinine is 89 umol/L
Serum sodium141 mmol/L
Serum Potassium 4.5 umol/L
Serum urea level 4.5 mmol/L
I have no idea what all that means?
Hi
I can relate to your situation and worry,
I'm in a similar position just recently found out I only have 1 kidney and diagnosed ckd stage 3 estimated gfr of 55
My only symptom is protein in urine
Have you had a urine test?
I can't think straight at times with the worry and all I can think of is leaving my 2 young girls without a daddy, I'm 37 and was a little overweight also, iv since lost almost 4 stone dieting and currently seeing my specialist every 3 month
No ones kidneys are 100% but do Try to eat healthy and don't use any unnecessary drugs
Keep away from salt and grapefruit
And keep active, please let me know how you get on
Above all try not to worry though as I well know that is very hard to do
I wish you well
Steve
IF YOU CAN, ASK YOU DOCTOR TO EXPLAIN. OR RESEARCH ON COMPUTER UNDER CHRONIC KIDNEY STAGES- WILL EXPLAIN ALL THOSE READINGS. ALSO- MOST IMPORTANT READINGS ARE GFR AND CREATININE-MUST BE WATCHED
YOU CAN GET INFO ON COMPUTER, BUT INSIST YOUR GP EXPLAIN- THEN WRITE DOWN EXPLANATION AS WE ARE USUALLY SO UPSET, WE GET CONFUSED. THEN ASK FOR SPECIALIST VISIT.
sodium and potasium are minerals , but creatinine and urea are wate products of metabolism to be ejected thro. kidney , i find your kidneys are overloaded..........................?
I am 78 yr old female- stage 3 kidney disease- absolutely no symptoms- just very bad results in blood tests. VERY IMPORTANT- TAKE NO IBUPRFEN, ASPIRIN OR ANY NSAIDS- DAMAGE KIDNEY. ALSO-IF YOU HAVE ACID REFLUX- TAKE NOTHING- RECENTLY FOUND PRILOSEC, PREVACID, ETC CAUSE KIDNEY DISEASE- THATS WHAt I WAS ON. NOW ON NEW DIET- ONLY 40g protein, 40g fat, 160g carbs- hard to follow- and to drink 64 oz water per day to flush out kidney. I UNDERSTAND THE CRYING- I AM TERRIFIED. IN ALL MY RESEARCH, SEEMS CHINA HAS BEST RESULTS IN TREATING DISEASE- BEST MEDS. BUT, NOT AVAILABLE UNLESS YOU GO THERE. IMPOSSIBLE. TRY TO STAY CALM-STAY AWAY FROM SALT, PHOSPHORUS AND POTASSIUM CONTAINING FOODS- VERY DIFFICULT. MOST IMPORTANT- KEEP LOW PROTEIN- WATCH THE PRO.CESSED FROZEN AND CANNED FOOD. GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS. YES-DOCTORS BLOW US OFF, BECAUSE NOT TOO MUCH THEY CAN DOO ONCE DISEASE STARTS- CAN ONLY SLOW IT DOWN-BY DIET
I 'believe ?' Ibuprofen and those classes of pain killers aren't good for the kidneys.
hi im 44 last year when our son was ten days old i was fiagnosed with kifney cancer i know how desperate you feel, i would auggest eating healthy drink and eat less dairy , a oid some vegies but try and eat veg high in potassium keep the weight down too. blue berries are good for water retention and pepple with gout recomend them and cranberry juice. hope it helps. roger
STAY AWAY FROM IBUPROFIN, MOTRIN, ADVIL, ASPIRIN AND THE LIKE. BAD FOR KIDNEY FUNCTION. TYLENOL- WHICH NEVER WORKS FOR ME, IS ONLY PREFERRED PAIN RELIEVER. ALSO,IF YOU HAVE ACID REFLUX-AVOID ALL MEDS FOR THAT- CURRENTLY LAWSUIT IN U.S.-PRILOSEC, PREVACID, ETC CAUSE KIDNEY DISEASE. WASN'T TOLD I HAD STAGE 2 FOR YEARS- HAD ATTRIBUTED IT AGING-NOT SO. WAS CAUSED BY MEDS FOR ACID REFLUX. PUSH TO SEE A SPECIALIST- YOU ARE YOUNG AND CAN BE HELPED. PRAY- ONLY GOD CAN DO IT. GOD BLESS
i understand green apples and pinepples are kidney favorable fruits.............
SUGGESTION- STAY OFF QUININE AND WATER PILLS---- DRINK 64 OZ WATER PER DAY- KEEP PROTEIN INTAKE TO 40G PER DAY. NO ASPIRIN OR NSAIDS OF ANY KIND.
Thank you ever so much for replying...each and everyone of you. I have stopped crying now...i have eaten lots of fruit & veg since i was told on thursday...i wasnt going to have any protein (to lighten the load on my kidneys) but my son told me i have to have some protein or my muscles cant repair any damage and i will wither away???? My salt intake is absolute minimal now, i am having to learn to cook from scratch to eliminate the salt, i am drinking roughly 2 litres of filtered water (less toxins), plus warm lemon water each morning/night & plenty of green tea through the day. Oh and im also having himalayan salt baths to draw out toxins that way too...I go back this coming monday (18th) for a further blood test and i just pray it hasnt dropped any further.
Some say bananas are bad to eat (potassium) but others say theyre good? which is confusing...i am keeping them to occasional until i am a little clearer. Big hugs to you all xxxxx
