Hello shattock,, If you live in the UK you will find some answers on NHS choices. Just enter CKD into the search box. I am 77 years old and have type two diabetes and my eGFR is 28 at the last reading. When most people reach 60 years of age their eGFR will be stage 3. this is a natural progress of ageing on the kidneys. I don't know what other health problems you have or what age you are so I can't comment on you CKD being at level 4 except to say that most people are referred to a nephrologist at this stage. Try to avoid too much salt and drink plenty of water to keep the kidneys flushed through. Was your con sultant a kidney specialist?
gfr is roughly the percentage that your kidneys are working at, only just found this out myself recently.
Thank you. Now I know my gfr is 20. Very helpful.
