LOW GFR 29: Hi guys I'm new here. My hubby... - Early CKD Support
LOW GFR 29
Firstly don't panic, make sure he eats healthy low potassium diet, the renal team should have given him leaflets for this, drink plenty of fluids, water, not juices and fizzy drinks and definitely no alcohol, I always say this on my replies to people, always ask questions, I've found the more you ask the less you worry, our renal teams are very good and approachable, the nurses are a good starting point. You don't say whether he is otherwise healthy as in Bp, weight or diet or if he has underlying problems that may have caused his Kidney problem, but please try not to worry to much, and good luck with everything xx
as suziecute2 said don't panic but do keep blood pressure low, excersize cut out salt & give him a normal healthy diet unless you have been told to i stress this to everyone! unless any levels of phosphate or potassium are too high don't reduce these they are all important for a healthy body for instance my hubby has problems with too high phosphates but never with potassium even though he is on dialysis every body is different & he still has a glass of whisky every day which he has been told this is fine!
I agree with all the other reply's the most important thing by far is controlling the blood pressure as this has a direct effect of kidney function. Avoid all anti-inflammatory drugs tablets and creams Ibuprofen, Voltarol, diclofenac to name a few. Again these can effect kidney function directly. Drink plenty of water and try bicarbonate of soda 1 teaspoon in water twice a day to take the acid out of the urine I was prescribed this some time ago by my renal specialist.
Best wishes
Christine
Yes i forgot about saying avoid anti inflammatory not sure if the bicarb is for everyone my hubby had to have bicarb pills at one time but its one of the things that is carefully monitored! he had to have them altered as per blood tests & now he has none even has to avoid scones because of the bicarb in them! so like i say take nothing unless you have been advised like yourselves!
