Just like my school reports, COULD DO BETTER 😂

It's now eight months since I joined this group and at that time I was in self destruct mode. Drinking about three litres of vodka and two or three bottles of wine per week. I have written on here several times about trying to moderate my drinking and to become a normal social drinker with varying amounts of success.

For around two months now I have been consuming approximately 20 units ( half litre) per week, which although the medics would say that it is still too much I am pleased with myself . No massive hangovers, no deep depressions and just generally feeling a lot better.

Strangely enough I don't seem to get that ,I MUST HAVE A DRINK feeling nearly so bad now.

So maybe like my old school reports said, I can do better.

Thanks to everyone here for your understanding, advice and support. I hope that you all have a great Christmas and that the temptations and challenges are not too much for you.

Merry Christmas.

I only think of this paragraph from the book AA:

""""There is a solution. Almost none of us liked the self- searching, the leveling of our pride, the confession of shortcomings which the process requires for its successful consummation. But we saw that it really worked in others, and we had come to believe in the hopelessness and futility of life as we had been living it. When, therefore, we were approached by those in whom the problem had been solved, there was nothing left for us but to pick up the simple kit of spiritual tools laid at our feet. We have found much of heaven and we have been rocketed into a fourth dimension of existence of which we had not even dreamed.""""

As it says, I had to come to believe in the hopelessness and futility of life the way I was living it. Then I was able to embrace the solution. Hope you realize soon Fatman. Have a great holiday. I will be travelling so may not frequent this site for few weeks.

Hi my school report always used to say' needs to focus' . Please make sure you focus. The minute you start to drink a mm more than the norm take action. I do have some control but it's the gradual 'creep' that always gets me in the end. You sounded like you were saying goodbye I hope not, stick with the gang I want to know how things are going in 2024.

This is not goodbye, I just wanted to update people on my progress. I get a lot from being part of this group. It reminds me that I am lucky compared to some other people and of the pitfalls that could happen to me if I am not careful. I also like to think that my contributions help others, even if it is just showing a bit of support.
