Do/did you ever treat yourself .....

At the end of each week you manage to stay drink free?

Sometimes an incentive helps, bribery I suppose, but it all helps, and if you did, what did you buy?

You make an interesting observation, Chloe. Rewarding myself for staying sober isn’t something I practice. Maybe I should.

My reward comes in the freedom I get from being a victim to the disease of alcoholism. I work hard to stay sober a day at a time. But the results usually fill me with gratitude. Left to my own devices, I have to drink

Maybe I’m looking at this wrong. Maybe I should pat myself on the back. But I don’t give myself kudos for taking my meds every day. It’s just something I should be doing for my own benefit. I’m the one who reaps the rewards for good actions.

Does that make any sense?

Absolutely it does LilyAnnepuppy

Just thought sometimes it might be nice to say 'Well I deserve a treat, I've worked hard at this' and we all have <3

You’re probably right. ❤️

I’m the same way. My reward is the freedom I have from being away from the drink which hurts me. I do like the idea of a treat though.

Good question chloe40, I like to think so. I bought some Noseco which was a treat. And had a little Vinted blow out! Nothing major just something nice. The app is adding up a major amount of cash 🤦🏼‍♀️I’m not sure I actually spent all that on booze?….

I have to check the alcohol content in non-alcoholic drinks. Some of them have some alcohol in them. Also if I’m “pretending” to drink, it could trigger my obsession. Just what I was told when I first stopped drinking. Hate to rain on your parade. But some food for thought. Try it on for size and if it resonates, use it. If not, throw it out.

😊 Between OH and me we must have spend loads. Ridiculous. Although I’m craving sweet stuff like mad I’m trying not to replace with too much 0% cider or wine. Like the Noseco at the weekend.

I should have saved up for something really. The app £££ says it could be something from Louis Vuitton never mind Vinted 😂😂😂

I don’t know about a regular treat. A clear head might be reward enough. But occasionally working out how much money you’ve saved (probably a lot) might allow a decent splurge 🤩

Oh yes, a splurge would be good now and again, a great tonic I find HeavyFoot

My reward was that I could look back and know that I was sober. That was the greatest reward and it didn’t cost anything. But sometimes, when I was feeling low and needed to do something nice for myself and knew I couldn’t drink, I’d grab another recovering alcoholic, go to the mall and head for the lingerie department. I’d get a pair of inexpensive unmentionables even though my drawer was full of previous trips to the mall. Ice cream was a definite reward for a long time in my early sobriety, but sometimes it was a reward and sometimes it was a great replacement for the alcohol. Yep, I put on a few pounds at first, but it was better than succumbing to drinking again. I did what I had to do.
