Hello all-

I am a recovering alcoholic with 8 and a half years sober. I am a member of both AA and Recovery Dharma. I have noticed a distinct mental decline the past few years due to anxiety/stress in my career, but in order to stay sober, have had to seek “outside help”. Happy to have found you folks.

Sorry I’m so late in welcoming you. I don’t get on HU as much as I used to. But you and I have chatted on the A&D forum. Glad you made it over here.

With some sober time, this is a site where you can share your experience, strength and hope with others. Some attendees want to stop completely, but others are looking to moderate. Of course I have tools to share with the former. But I have to admit to the others that I failed at moderation.

Keep posting and welcome again.

Glad to meet you and congrats on your 8 years of sobriety. Some of us are in program and others are on their journey around it all. I know about the mental issues that can come up in sobriety as I am dual diagnosed....depression and alcohol/addiction ...some of us here belong to other groups on the site like the PTSD, and anxiety and depression group, etc. They can be useful tools for expressing the emotional struggles too.

I attended my first AA meeting today. Any advice for a beginner?

What is an Alixandra meeting?

Suggestion is to make as many meetings as you can in 90 days. If you want to leave after that, we will gladly refund your misery.

Get some phone numbers of members who have some reasonable length of sobriety. Men with the men. Women with the women. Use the phone and talk to other alcoholics

Just don’t drink one day at a time and go to meetings. In person are ideal, but Zoom meetings are available online.

Keep checking in here and let us know how you’re doing.
