This is my first post on here. I have drank for years and have had periods when i drunk heavily; ive had times when i drunk in moderation and have also had a time when i spent almost 2 years comepletely sober.
What i have learnt (for me), is that staying away from alcohol completely is the best option. I drank 4 pints of Stella Artois last week and the morning after i felt so unwell and dehydrated (even though i did drink water whilst i was drinking the beer). I have stayed away from drinking since.
Heres to sobriety : )

Welcome, Scotty. 😁Do I understand that you want to quit drinking? How are you feeling since your last drink? I’m in the US if you reply to me and it’s late here. I may not reply right away, but someone else might be along.
Good deal! It certainly wouldn’t hurt you to stop. In good conscience, i can’t encourage anybody to continue to drink. It sounds like you’ve been putting a lot of thought in to the possible consequences of drinking. Your input on your journey would be appreciated here. If you felt comfortable, of course. We’re here to help as much as we can.🕊
Hi Scott I am probably not the best to reply on here as only new like yourself but it sounds like you can keep away from alcohol when you want to but something seems to trigger you into having a drink, if I am right and you can find that trigger I think that could be your answer, us on the other hand it is either habit or addiction I am not sure but as Isinatra has said on a lot of her posts take 1 day at a time, I have tried to set my sites on 4 days alcohol free and maybe go up from there.
Hi Scotty, its not going too bad I have been drinking AF lager and cider not sure if you have tried that instead of going for the real stuff. I did do 7 days AF then went to 3 then 4 so I am trying to stick to 4 days or more from now, also trying to cut my wife down as well as I she thinks we don't have a problem and she is still drinking but a lot less.
Yes drinking AF is not a bad idea to help with cravings or if you are cutting down on alcohol. There is an AF lager i used to drink called becks blue which really tasted like the real thing. I have drunk AF beer now and then.
Excellent, its about setting those little goals and working on them day by day. That's nice to hear that your wife is also cutting down.
'IF' you or your wife does hit a bump in the road and have a slight lapse, try not to dwell in it and beat yourself up about it, just dust yourself off and get back to it.
