Quiet trumpet blow

Now, it’s two years of sobriety. But I’m taking it gently. Some lessons:

1) It does get easier

2) Every day is Day One

3) Being in boozy company (pubs, parties, dinners ) is difficult

4) The appearance of booze on TV programmes is still annoying

5) Be gentle with others. I chewed a friend’s ear off when he said it was a pity I couldn’t share a good bottle of wine with him. Clearly, it was a sore point with me.

Best wishes to all of you out there 🙂

I won’t blow a big horn for your birthday, but I do congratulate you….quietly…hee hee. 🎂😉☺️ You’re doing good, brother.

Boozy company, etc irritates me more than it’s difficult after all these years, but still avoid them whenever possible and I get upset when tv movies have warnings about smoking, sex, drug use and violence, but never warnings of alcohol abuse although some smart you know what’s might group alcohol with drugs which isn’t entirely wrong. Still avoid the liquor isles in grocery stores. All in all, it still ain’t all that bad or hard doing what you need to do to stay sober. It becomes a way of life, right?

I have to stay out of slippery situations and places....it's why it's always going to be a one day at a time for me....I never take for granted my sobriety.....I've worked very hard for it, and know my life is unmanageable without it...

Congratulations on your two years. You’re a miracle. Left to my own devices, I have to drink. But a day at a time, I haven’t had to drink since 1978. And I still agree with your observations.

I saw a commercial the other day for hard seltzer; proclaiming it was five percent alcohol. Wtf good does five percent do? If I’m going to drink, it better be 180 proof.

That reaction reminds me I have an alcoholic mind. And I’m not wasting my time treating my disease daily.

Keep up the good work. And it does take work.

Well done. I have just recently joined this page and I'm passionate about giving up alcohol. I have joined another app which supports my drink free nights. I have had no other help in terms of therapy or medical. I plan to do this with sheer determination and will power. I am going to start using books on an evening as a destraction. Is there any advice you could give me? I have the full support of my partner of 16 years and my girls who are 12 and 13. I wouldn't say I have an issue with alcohol it's how I turn to it and who it turns me into when I am under the influence. I do not like me and it serves no purpose in my life. I am doing the sober October and I haven't had an alcoholic drink for 5 days. I have gone weeks and months without it, only this past two years it has become every other night and lots of it.

I see you have the appropriate self-awareness and motivation to launch yourself. Having the support of family is so important - accept it and thank them for it.

Good luck!
