I agree with SoberDrunk1 and fauxartist we seem to be having to reply to posts in the same way every time. Whilst AA is excellent for many, we are not sponsored by them, so I can't help wondering if there is something we can do about this.

Probably not... there are other recovery groups other than AA, and some swear by meditation, and various means methods, some use antabuse and other drugs, which for a recovering alcoholic and addict doesn't fly for me...AA is free, it's not a cult, and if you find the right fit for a meeting group that suits you...it can facilitate a structure for support.

Until science can alter our gene that is responsible for our predisposition to addiction, I don't think there is much out there to help with sobriety that's free, and teaches you a better way to look at yourself as well as how to treat others and have the support to stay sober....all of that is free.
AA does not promote itself. It’s a program of attraction not promotion. And this site is not about promoting AA. It’s about people sharing their experience, strength and hope. It just so happens that many members have gotten sober, and stayed sober, using AA.
I believe this forum is open minded enough to hear other views. But we don’t get a lot of people who have found other solutions.
Please , if anyone else has found solutions to moderation or abstinence, feel free to post.
AA has been helping alcoholics stay sober for 88 years. There’s no denying it works.
I’m sure a Google search will produce other options.
And yes we do sound like broken records because the message stays the same. And a day at a time, I need to reinforce that same message. I am powerless over alcohol and my life has become unmanageable. Left to my own devices, I have to drink.

Yes, AA is one of the options for people who are genuinely looking for ways to stop. There is this segment in the book where it talks about whether one can stop on his own or requires a spiritual solution depends upon the extent to which he/she has lost the choice in drink. The alcoholic who has gone beyond human aid for them the only hope is a huge displacement of old ideas and adopting a different perspective in life. That we call it as a spiritual awakening. Now there are several ways that can happen one of the ways documented and easier to follow is the 12 steps of AA. When i posted the option in my earlier views I laced it with for those who tried all options and yet couldn't stay sober may try 12 steps. Even then it may fail, if the person who is applying is not genuine and doesnt understand the problem.

Totally agree 👍 Yes AA can be a foot in the right direction for the spiritual guidance. I will give you all a little bit on my life and Alcoholism. I'm now nearly 63 and for 35yrs possibly more I used drink as a crutch, to hide, to ease pain, to relax, to take ME out of my Head!! Block out all that I did not or could not cope with in reality it was easier to drink than to feel emotional pain hurt guilt regret etc etc etc. Who wants to feel all that? No One!! So drink it was like everyone I guess It started as a social casual drinking habit but then 🤷 it got hold of me I wasn't controlling drinking drinking was controlling me!! I tried to live as normal a life as possible job, marriage, family life but with each drinking sessions the progression from a few glasses 🥂 to a few bottles a week. I would have been a binge drinker on it few days of it few months and so it goes until before I knew it i was binge drinking for 2wks 3wks and my health and life deteriorated into what I can only call HELL!! I tried AA, Rehab, self help and support service but to no avail I was lost my life was broken 💔 my family was broken 💔 I attempted suicide many times but thank God above they never succeed 🙏 I had numerous problems health wise family wise because that's what drink does it strips you of everything and everyone it strips your very soul that even if you do believe in God you don't know him anymore either....So 7yrs ago after one of many binges I'd suffered yet another bad fall breaking ribs bashing my face badly 😢 and after detox in hospital after suffering a seizure coming of the bender binge. I just sat one night and said Lord Lord Lord I'm sorry for all my sins I'm sorry for all my wrongs in thoughts words and deeds please forgive me take me from this bondage of alcohol or help me out of this HELL 🙏 😢 That was October 2016 months passed more months passed by and I had not had a drink in 12 months 🙏 yes 1 year praise God. I couldn't believe it I always had faith in the Lord but the drinking had taken that away from me too. Anyways 1yr sober I thought wow thank God 😊 my prayers were answered 🙏 so in December 2016 my neighbour brought me to her church ⛪️ I was raised Catholic but this was very different a non religious views or culture or traditions it was so powerful just worship prayer praise and a personal commitment and relationship with my Father God. It's now 7yrs this year I'm sober praise God 🙌🙏 I still have times of weakness but by the Grace of God Almighty I rise above the evil temptation of alcohol I know where it took me and I never want to go back there. God gave me a strong desire for him and a better life with my family NOT a desire for alcohol lies paranoia depression anxiety sickness and all that goes with it purely HELL!! I'm not preaching here I'm only saying how I by God's grace 🙏 🙌 I'm still sober still living all beit I've poor health but my goodness I can cope with that when I think I could have been dead!! I'm now A born again Christian ✝️ and I love God ❤️ I pray for you all who are suffering from bondage of alcohol or any addiction that God provides you with the most important things in life that's your Faith and Love and joy you all deserve God bless you all Love ❤️+ 🤗 in Jesus Mighty name Amen 🙏 🙌 ✨️ ❤️
Congratulations on your 7 years! I wish you many more. I hit my bottom when I was 53 and you hit yours when you were 56. It gives hope that it’s never too late to try to stop. Although, we were lucky that we were still able to make that change.
