I thought I would post in this group to maybe get an answer. My dad was placed on a ventilator/trach from dec 31 to feb 1. Last week we found out that when he was on the ventilator he had a few strokes, which the dr said were quick. It affected his right side. He is able to talk, however, he is still whispering and can’t fully project his voice. His left leg and arm are working okay. His right leg is very, very slowly starting to bend, but with his right arm there is no movement. In addition, they have tried to feed him soft purees and foods of different textures and he keeps choking on them. He is overall really really weak still- which I know is expected. We are so thankful he has come out the hardest part. I guess I’m just wondering what some progression stories look like with someone who had been in similar situation. Thanks for taking the time to answer!

Morning,Just to say that a lot of stroke victims and families also post on the Headway section of health unlocked. Often more replies as that site is very active and I find more responses there.
Dont give up on us here, so quick, some of us want to respond and poss help. My initial strokes i was bedridden. I would like to add please make sure you do range of motion to his affected side, when he starts to recover it will help him. You dont want any extremity to be contracted it makes it so much more difficult in the recovery stage if neglected...if you dont know how to do ROM for him, google it. Its basically moving all of his joints that he cant move himself at this time, dont forget fingers and toes as this will help with grip and walking plus balancing to walk later. Best of progress. I walk four miles every other day when the weather co operates now. Ive come a long way. Please pm me if i can help or answer any questions
