Mobility - what to do

Hi,

I don't regularly post on this forum. Normally I head over to a forum dealing with pain, but it seemed more appropriate to post here.

By way of introduction, I'm now 50 and had a stroke at 35. I've struggled with mobility ever since, but have recently found it more of a challenge to get around. I can still do it with the use of a stick, but I'm finding its more of a task than its been before.

I'd like to ask people if there is a time when you need to stop straining and go with a wheelchair/powerchair/scooter? I really don't like the possibility of using either of these, but the scooter option would be the one that scares me most.

I work, I'm reasonably independent, I drive, but I'm not strong, so lifting something heavy into a car is near next to impossible.

I'd also like to ask what other options people have gone with in terms of mobility?

Lars

Can you join a gym? Can you get a trainer who is interested in helping you? My stroke occurred over 2 years ago and strength training has helped me stay stong and mobile.

Keep trying your best... your mind believes what you tell it. Keep telling it you can do it, you will do it (state how you plan to do it), then visualize/ picture yourself in your mind doing it. I was bedridden then to W/C ( and i dont want to be there again), now i independently walk. It was a slow progression...but you have to re program your brain, best of luck ....Cindy in Delaware
