My First TIA

Recently went for a CT scan - and after just two days got a call from my GP to say that I had had a mini stroke - is this a TIA ?

I now have to have a 24 hour ecg and in the meantime have been prescribed Aspirin. Reason for the CT scan was repeated bouts of Vertigo so I'm wondering if perhaps a blood clot was the culprit ? Also to accompany the Vertigo I have had a drop in hearing - could a blood clot be responsible for this too I wonder ?

Part 1 of 6: What is a ministroke?

What is a ministroke?

Highlights

TIAs don’t cause permanent brain damage or disability.

One of the most common TIA symptoms is motor disruption.

You can reduce your risk of TIA and stroke.

A transient ischemic attack (TIA), or ministroke, occurs when part of the brain experiences a temporary lack of blood flow. This causes stroke-like symptoms that resolve within 24 hours. Unlike a stroke, a TIA doesn’t kill brain tissue or cause permanent disabilities. Since symptoms of a TIA and a stroke are nearly identical, you should seek immediate emergency attention if you experience any symptoms.

Hi Elizabeth, I have just had an episode which may have been a TIA. No symptoms after event but my neurologist put me on aspirin as a precaution. Feel blessed that I'm physically normal but emotionally I'm a wreck. Any advice? I'm 39
