I mean to say that if you screen for diabetes, early diagnose diabetes, manage your diabetes in a proper way you can prevent your diabetes. At the same time you can prevent associated illness like high blood pressure, lipid-disorder, heart attack, paralysis, kidney failure.

I agree with the Doctor that with early detection and proper management there are a number of collateral benefits. But to call it lucky, well,I have some reservations.Firstly,it is not easy to find a good diabetologist. .Secondly for effective management, one should gather a lot of information about the problem, which is not easy. You are required to change your lifestyle drastically, giving up lots of things. Then you might get stuck in situations when you just do not get any timely food. For proper management, definitely one needs to spend a tidy amount. With all these, calling it lucky is rather difficult for me as a patient. But I do agree that diabetes is no longer a dreaded problem as it was in the past with the availability of wonderful drugs and a lot more of well qualified Doctors.
