Very true. Only and only low carb diet can help.

in reply tosuramo

Suramo correct

If one's life style is not active, I mean if someone doesn't prefers excercise then he should reduce carb intake to control BS

There is always option to the community. But by doing regular exercise like jogging walking you can easily control your diabetes. Control.....

in reply tosureshs

As per my experience you are correct Suresh. As I have not only controlled my sugar from 480 mgdl to 120 mgdl PPBS but also improved my HBA1C from 8.9 to 5.3. only by excercise 1.5 hour walking daily morning and 15-20 mnts walking after dinner. I am having foods without any restrictions I mean all sweets.carbs fat and protein (balanced diet). I am having daily 210 gm carbs, 70 gm protein. 70 gm fat and 45 gm faiber. My ppbs remains not more than 120. I have never been on any medication. Just excercise controlled my sugar.

Good you controlled your bs with exercise but 210 g carbs a day is too high for us.

in reply tosuramo

Forget to mention that once in a week water only fasting has helped me a lot as suggested by a link shared by you Suramo.

Good that you are very active and physically fit and burn off extra calorie. But as @anup says you have to walk 1km for every 10 g extra carb. So you have to walk 11 kms to burn off extra 110 g carbs you take. Everybody here may not be so fit and you may also not remain that active lifelong. It's better to take less carbs. You can continue the exercise you are doing. Carbs are just a source of energy and we can live without it.

"Can you live without eating carbs?

While we can most certainly survive without sugar, it would be quite difficult to eliminate carbohydrates entirely from your diet. Carbohydrates are the body's main source of energy. In their absence, your body will use protein and fat for energy."

in reply tosuramo

Correct Suramo

Each 1 gm carb gives us 4 cal and we have to burn that cal I.e by 11 km in my case I am running for 12 km daily during 1.5 hours. But please tell me that each 1 gm fat gives us 9 cal so every 10 gm fat we have to run 2 km extra. So in my opinion it's good to have more carb than fat. Fat also increase the insulin resistance. I am not doctor or very much intelligent but this is just my opinion. What's yours Suramo ?

It's good to have knowledge.

It's not about burning calorie but carbs. We are poor at clearing carbs so an arbitrary limit based on observation and experience has been set to 100g a day. But lesser carbs are better. Fat burn during endurance exercise. Wheres carbs burn during short term physical activity and exercise. Our motive is to burn carbs. So exercise.

Fats do increase ir but not dietary fats. Good fats like vco, evoo, ghee etc reduce ir on the contrary. Body fats formed by high carb diet is one of the causes for ir. Actually it's not yet known what causes ir, genetic cause is thought to be but losing body weight and esp abdominal fat by low carb diet and exercise wards off ir and we can become drug free for ever if follow idm.

in reply tosuramo

Oh good knowledge shared by you.

Thanks Suramo. Will try again to reduce carb from diet. Infect I have tried this some time ago but was felling very tired at that time so again increased carb intake.

Thanks again

You are welcome bro.

But by vigorous exercise you are just burning off extra carbs you have taken. It will not get you any benefit except that you develop muscles by exercise and such developed muscles will consume carbs even at rest without the aid of insulin. Increased bmr. Carbs are source of energy and fibres and humans can very well live without eating carbs.

Berberine activates Apmk , which causes decreased insulin resistance . What exercise ,diet restriction ,weight loss do, is done by Apmk activation. Apmk activation does cellular repair . Even high fat intake does the same . So instead of going for high fat diet or metformin it is advisable to take Berberine supplement by which APMK gets activated .Berberine also has antiatherosclerosis and anti obesity properties .supplements are available .

in reply to

Hi,

Sorry but what is apmk and berberine?

Does turmeric helps to increase insulin production in pancreas?

in reply to

Apmk is an engyme .------- activated protein kinase . It causes burning of sugar and fat. Apmk also improves insulin sensitivity and thus helps in controlling diabetes . Turmeric has traces of berberine. Berberine supplements are available and it is reported that they are very effective . But if ordinary turmeric paste is taken one tea spoon per day some benefits are reported . Turmeric has curcuma which is equally efficacious.

in reply to

Type2 pertains to insulin resistance where as type 1 primarily a problem of insufficiency . But turmeric paste with a pinch of cinnamon and pepper works for the problem of insulin. if you go for supplement consult a doctor before taking the supplement . I don't believe the doctors because they are interested in their income .Their cut off point of 3 laks makes them recommend various un necessary tests and prescribe unnecessary medicines . All of them may not be like that but majority are the same . If tests are not recommended , the other modus operandi is to ensure perennial income from the patients in the form of prescriptions . I am sorry if I sound pessimistic and over critical.

in reply to

I am sorry , there was some typing mistake . TREE turmeric has berberine and turmeric powder has curcumine . Both are effective in sugar control either singly or jointly .

I personally take this forum seriously since I have got high moral support through the practice of LCHF diet. But I quite often see people giving views who do not understand what is DM 2 actually and how much is the variation across people. Just saying that I do regular exercise and never took medicine, or I have this diet etc and never take medicine mean NOTHING. There are many people who do not do regular exercise and also do not follow LCHF etc but they do not suffer from DM 2. So what does your statement mean! Were you ever diagnosed as a diabetic patient and had high HbA1AC, used at least Metformin 500/1000 for sometime to control BS and then you followed some discipline to improve. Without a scientific evaluation whatever people say are just garbage and lowers down the value of this forum. Once again, EVERY Individual is DIFFERENT (though there is some commonality) when in comes to autoimmune diseases like DM 2 etc and we must understand our constitution through experimentation and study. There is no way out. This is my two cents.

in reply toakb123

like some member commented , insulin suppresses sugar where as medicines most of the times have side effects . Exercise is very good and most important but may not be possible after certain age .The forum is meant for information . We have to gather information from all sources and have to take a decision . No two individuals are same and no two experiences are same . Diabetes is multifactoral disorder. We can't just dismiss of others' experiences.

You are right. Collective knowledge of individual experiences helps us to acquire wisdom if we are careful in interpretation. And for our own body we must understand self. However it is not a 'comment' of any member about the functionalities of Insulin. It is supposed to be a scientific (researched) fact that insulin helps us to absorb the glucose in our blood into body muscle tissues so that we get energy. If this glucose is not absorbed we become weak and before this glucose is extracted out of our body, kidney, heart & nerve etc are damaged. So we should be worried of high BS.
