That is a wrong idea kandadai. As answered by amiyakrishna, both rice and chapatis have the same effect. Please consult your doctor and dietician to find out how much of it you need according to your working and lifestyle.

Wheat Chapatis add sugar to the body. If you are diabetic, you should go for multi grain atta. Mix at least 4 grains i.e., Jwar, chana, Ragi and Bajra, one kg each, mix them together and have chapatis... you would feel fresh and no adding sugar to your body.

Chapatis or rice, both will be converted to glucose within the body. What is important is not to take a heavy meal at one time.Take only a small amount of food, but multiple times.Allow food to be converted into small amount of sugar at any time and let it be used up.You must burn your sugar by doing some physical exercise/work,mind it. Thanks,if you benefit, pl. let me know at pkray2000@yahoo.com

Why Chappathi is recommended for diabetics?

1. Normally in take of rice is large whether for lunch or dinner, especially people from Kerala, TN, AP and West Bengal who are traditionally used to 2 full meals a day are bound to consume more rice, whereby carbohydrate level also goes up drastically.

2. While majority of vegetarians eat rice with one or two subjis, made of vegetables, the non vegetarians consume lot of FRIED or SPICY meat/fish/poultry with every meal they have. This can harm your health.

3. With chappathi, normally, you take subji made of vegetables/pulses which can balance the quantity (I mean, quantum of subji eaten with 2 or 3 medium sized rotis will fill your stomach), thus you can LIMIT intake of food during night. (However, this is not favourable for non-vegetarians as they tend to eat spicy, oil filled curry with chappathi). And, mind you; rotis/chapathis must be made of pure, refined Atta and NEVER maida.

4. Rice gets digested rapidly hence you will have tendency to fill your stomach at regular intervals, whereas chappathis/rotis stay for long.

I think my views will be appreciated by the experts (I am not an expert, but for 25 years I am experiencing this).
