Is this a common problem for people with diabetes type 2?
What can be done to avoid to be in an embarrassing situation after a 2 hour non stop car ride? Unable to get to the toilet in time!!

I put this post to open up discussion on a well know problem. When I was in India 5 years ago, ravelling by car caused a bit of a problem for me. I was drinking a lot of coconut water where as my friend will not drink !! On return I went for blood test, nothing found. May be there is an underlying issue. I am not going for investigation just accept it. In UK there were TV programme on embarrassing problems and this was discussed.

In my view, Frequent urination should not be taken for granted for diabetes. One should get screened with the help of few simple tests as follows to avoid complications later. These tests are readily available in every path laboratory. It should not be ignored when simple non - invasive tests are scientifically designed to diagnose.
(1) Get your urine sample tested for sugar and protein (albumin) by "urine routine microscopic test"
(2) you can also order a urine test on "Microalbuminurea" which will indicate the exact amount of protein content in your urine. This will rule out any early damage if any on kidney.
(3) Do a "urine culture & sensitivity" Test to indicate if at all you have UTI( urinary tract infection) or bladder inflammation.
(4) Men over age of 50 carry a risk of BPH (Benign prostate Hyplacia).. To rule out BPH, you will have to do a test in a lab where you will be asked to urinate and the lab assistant will examine the angle of flow of stream & volume.
They would also do a ultrasonography to confirm or rule out if at all your prostate gland has swollen.... and if at all you have residual urine in bladder after urination.
If BPH is detected earlier, it can be arrested by simple naturopathy treatment. Or else it would require surgery later..
(5) Two Sex specific cancer diseases though curable if detected early , unfortunately kills millions due to negligence and ignorance...
Every man above age of 50 should be screened for prostate cancer by a simple blood test called PSA ( Prostate specific Antigen) and every woman above 21 should be screened for Cervical cancer by a simple " PAP smear" test.
"Urinary incontinence is the involuntary leakage of urine. It means a person urinates when they do not want to. Control over the urinary sphincter is either lost or weakened. Urinary incontinence is a common problem that affects many people."(1)
Urinary incontinence can have causes that aren't due to underlying disease. Examples include intoxication, unavailability of bathrooms, coughing, sneezing, extreme anxiety or intense laughter.
