Semaglutide- A GLP-1 Receptor agonist in Oral form now approved and launched in India for Type -2 Diabetes. Semaglutide is made by the Insulin maker Novo Nordisk India.

GLP -1 is known as Glucagon - Like - Peptide was till date available in India in a Daily /Weekly injection form.

GLP-1 in oral form was launched in USA only 6 months back and it is good to see that now it is being launched in India. GLP-1 oral drug is the Newest class of diabetics drugs after DPP-4 inhibitor such as Vildagliptin/Sitagliptin / Teneligliptin/ Linagliptin .

If some of you have been advised to take Insulin injection as your pancreas is no longer able to produce adequate insulin with other oral drugs and you hate taking insulin injection, GLP-1 Oral drug can be tried.. please talk to your endocrinologist/ Diabetelogist. In fact it needs to be prescribed by those Doctors who have Post Graduate qualifications in India .

(1) GLP-1 is USA FDA approved and it is expected to be safer when compared with other oral Diabetic drugs.

(2) Expected to preserve Beta cells of Pancreas.

(3) Is also expected to bring in weight loss..

(4) It releases insulin in measured quantities only when it is required by body .... So incidents of hypoglycemia & sugar spike / hyperglycemia can be minimised.

Disclaimer: (1) This post is only for your information and education purpose only. Please don't do self medication , though now it is available in India only on prescription by a registered medical practitioner with Post graduate qualification. ..

(2) Drugs can not replace a healthy diet and physical exercise and only when you are not able to control your blood sugar and other diabetic conditions with a healthy diet and physical exercise, yoga , Pranayam, meditation , you should contact your physician for any kind of medicines as an additional measure.

Stay Safe , Stay Healthy 🙏

Thank you for this information.

One has to look at side effect as well in any medication.

Food as medicine and controlling carb intake in food and drink is the way forward towards a healthy life.

"Semaglutide is used along with a diet and exercise program to control blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and therefore cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood) when other medications did not control the sugar levels well enough. Semaglutide is not used to treat type 1 diabetes (condition in which the body does not produce insulin and therefore cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood) or diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious condition that may develop if high blood sugar is not treated). Semaglutide is in a class of medications called incretin mimetics. It works by helping the pancreas to release the right amount of insulin when blood sugar levels are high. Insulin helps move sugar from the blood into other body tissues where it is used for energy. Semaglutide also works by slowing the movement of food through the stomach.

Over time, people who have diabetes and high blood sugar can develop serious or life-threatening complications, including heart disease, stroke, kidney problems, nerve damage, and eye problems. Using medication(s), making lifestyle changes (e.g., diet, exercise, quitting smoking), and regularly checking your blood sugar may help to manage your diabetes and improve your health. This therapy may also decrease your chances of having a heart attack, stroke, or other diabetes-related complications such as kidney failure, nerve damage (numb, cold legs or feet; decreased sexual ability in men and women), eye problems, including changes or loss of vision, or gum disease. Your doctor and other healthcare providers will talk to you about the best way to manage your diabetes."(1)
