Interesting study reveals there is a link between Vitamin D level & Vulnerability to Covid19 infection...

Covid19 affected people in Italy and Spain had very low level of vitamin D level than the Northern European nations...

Incidentally, most Type 2 diabetes are normally have low vitamin D level......

So the advice would be that diabetes should check their vitamin D level at least once in 6 months . If found low, please ensure you get your vitamin D , naturally from Sunlight or have vitamin D Supplements after consultation with your Doctor !

Please note I am not recommending a Cure for Covid19 by taking vitamin D ... As of today there seems to be no standard protocol of medical treatment for Covid19 world over...

The objective is that if there is a vitamin D deficiency in the body , please do correct it.... so that even if one gets infected by covid19, perhaps the severity can be minimised .... That is what data suggests...

Always remain healthy, keep your blood sugar under control, do physical exercise , eat a nutritious food , enhance your body immunity ... are the preventive measures at best you can take...

May God Bless you ! 🥀🥀🥀

While I Agree that vit D is Fat soluble vitamin , but it does not necessarily mean that the Vit D availability from Dietary sources are adequate to meet the Daily human requirement.

Based upon my studies on Vitamin D from various research papers and my own trial on my own body and other relatives and friends, my take is as follows:

(1) Vit D deficiency is as Pandemic as Covid19 😀. The only difference is that Covid19 was discovered very recently where as Vit D deficiencies across the Globe was discovered a decade back and it is still being researched as to how and why the deficient happens and how it is linked with various diseases.

(2) Vit D deficient is prevalent everywhere -no matter (a) whether you live in Northern Hemisphere or Southern or you live near Equator (b) whether you eat fatty fish & meat or totally a vegetarian diet (c) whether it is LCHF diet or HCLF diet....(d) whether you are a child or a senior citizen.

(3) I appreciate the author who spent his life in researching Vit D and then wrote a book on Vit D. He is none other than Michael F Holicks, MD, Ph.D , an Endochrinologist by profession... I would strongly recommend every one to go through the book. It gives a lot of insight which I fully tried on myself and fully agree with his views...

(4) Few points I quote from his book . ...

(a) Vit D deficiency is a major risk factor for all modern day illness..

(b) it is not a vitamin so that you could get it from your diet...it is a hormone which needs to be synthesised by your body with the help of sunlight UVB... radiations in your skin.

(c) The current recommendation for daily requirement is 1000IU which is under revision to atleast 3000IU daily...

You can only get 300-400 IU from a large portion of Fatty fish like Wild Salmon which eats Vit D rich Phytoplankton...but everyone can not get wild salmon fish every time ... all commercial fish are farmed fish have very little Vit D.... Other dietary sources also have very little Vit D such that it can not meet the daily needs...

(d) Further, nowadays The sea water is heavily polluted with Mercury, Arsenic, cadmium, Lead due to industrial discharges in to the sea...and in all probability sea fish is likely to be contaminated.

(e) The most Important factor is that vit D produced by natural sunlight sustains in the blood longer time 2 times more than the dietary vit D....

(f) The obese people with BMI more than 30 kg/m2 will have less circulating vit D level...as vit d gets locked in fat cells...

(g) The most natural and sustainable way is to have Sunlight exposure sensibly for 3 to 4 times a week in summer days from 10 am 2 PM for 30 mnts duration...

(h) The modern day problem is we have 9 am to 5 pm job... Desk job with laptop.... no time for sunlight exposure...

And people apply SPF - sunscreen lotion which actually blocks UVB radiation which is required for Vit D synthesis .

(I) Skin cancer is a phobia... Once you expose your body sensibly ... Your skin automatically evolves to develop adequate melanin a skin pigment to protect you from harmful radiation at the same time absorbs some UV radiation which would make vit D synthesis...

Our hunter gatherer forefathers were under the sun and their skin evolved melanin pigments to protect their skin from harmful radiation and at the same time helped to make adequate vit d...

(J) And depending upon where you live especially if you live in Northern hemipheres where sunlight is an issue in most part of the year , you can always resort to the concentrated form of Vit D Supplements which are again extracted mainly from sheep wool... though you may continue to take whatever diet you want....

But you should keep checking your Vit D level at least once a year and if found low, please do consult your medical professional for taking the right dose .
