1) Boiled Emmer wheat (around 50-60 grams approx.) can be as a substitute for rice in a traditional south Indian meal along with either Sambar or Rasam and regular vegetables and ghee.

2) Emmer wheat atta flour can be used for preparing your roti/chapati. Add emmer wheat bran(available in online stores) to increase the fiber content of your roti/chapati.

3) Broken emmer wheat/ emmer wheat dalia : Boil this along with plenty of vegetables like carrot, beans, peas to make khichdi or upma. This tastes amazing.

4) Emmer wheat shevai can be used to prepare upma, khichdi

5) Use Emmer wheat sooji rava to prepare upma as well. It tastes different than the emmer wheat dalia. Alternatively, You try making idli(called rava idli) using this rava.

6) Emmer wheat puffs or chiwda is now available as a snack now. Just some handful of chiwda will not make you feel hungry for hours.

mistidahi ,

Why do you avoid carrots?

Carrots are very good for health. It wont spike your BS. Please try having 200g or 300g(a good amount) and observe the BS spike by yourself.

I want to know what is emmer wheat, how is it different from regular wheat , one & half month back I had dengu like fever during which time I stayed on tender coconut water, Musabhi juice papya etc to make good of my fall in blood patelets. As a result H b1ac is 10.5/ serum glucose level was 295 now it has come down to 213/ fasting. Due to extreme weakness could not continue with walking trigliziroids also increased to 275from 190/ though I restarted walking 2 days ago I find it very hard. Now how to control my sugar levels, I use multygrain atta mixed with Rahi floor for chapati but very hard to eat, I have to care myself as a widower. So find it hard to cook small quantity of food for one person . I take 23 units Langus at bed time,10 units of Insultard in the morning along with Glimiace-MV2 1-1 &vogram 0.3MF at night. I have to get back to Fasting below 110 and pP below 180 as l am DM2 from 30 yrs. Please suggest any solutions.

shyraj ,

Your HbA1c is high.

Below are my general advises on reducing BS.

Switch to Long Wheat or Emmer Wheats as it's glycemic index is low (around 40-45). Please note that the normal wheat or atta(Sharbati or other varieties) have a high glycemic index of 70 upwards. You can buy emmer wheat from online shopping sites.

Switch to whole fruit instead of juices.

Amount of millet in a serving should be reduced.

Please follow the above tips and continue with your present medication and go for HbA1c testing again and consult a good endocrinologist to review your medicines.

You can add more water to "I use multygrain atta mixed with Rahi floor for chapatti" this and make it to a soft paste, steam it, may be soft to eat. Also steam a lot of green leaf veg, good for you, Methi and other green leaf veg.

Fruit juice are high in sugar! Cut an apple into small pieces and eat slowly, one apple a day is good for you, boil cinnamon and drink the water. soak fenugreek small quantity, eat the soft fenugreek and drink the water.

Watch out for cholesterol lipid numbers, what about all other cholesterol lipid numbers.?

As you are on medication you need to watch out all the time.

We need life style change. Cauliflower, broccoli both can be cut into very small pieces, steam cooked and can be eater with curry. Steamed green veg can also help.
