Hepatitis B and C viruses and alcohol abuse may cause cirrhosis and may lead to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Uncontrolled diabetes may worsen the liver disease.

Hepatitis B virus infection can be prevented by vaccination. Modern drugs are available to treat and cure Hepatitis C infection within 12 weeks.

Cirrhosis may cause esophageal varices due to high blood pressure in the portal veins (portal hypertension). It may also cause hepatic gastropathy, ascites (fluid in the abdomen), hepatic encephalopathy and thrombocytopania (low platelet count).

Four stages of cirrhosis:-

Stage 1. Clinical: No varices; no ascites. Death (at one year) 1%.

Stage 2. Clinical: Varices; no ascites. Death (at one year) 3%.

Stage 3. Clinical: Ascites +/- varices. Death (at one year) 20%

Stage 4. Clinical: Bleeding +/- ascites. Death (at one year) 57%

In the case of hepatitis infection, the genotype of the virus and quantitative load of RNA in the blood have to be ascertained. Some patients are ignorant about the spread of liver cancer to the other organs. There will not be any noticeable symptoms till the total liver is destroyed.

HCC nodules can be destroyed by TACE procedure.

Hello,

Thank you for your comment, looking forward to a good discussion to help members here.

I did free learn courses on cancer, liver, and many human organs!, the reason for this is to understand why a relative developed stomach cancer.

Another relative who passed away last week, type 2 for many years. Developed liver cancer, he did not know!!, it may have been there for months. every thing happened in the last 6 weeks. This is life.

There is always possibility of link between medication, food and cancer.

Here’s an article about Diabetes and a cancer link/risk. It’s from WebMD. webmd.com/diabetes/news/201...

Hi Leah - that’s a good (and short 😁) article. I particularly like the bit about diabetes cutting the risk of prostate cancer! Very interesting πŸ‘.

There is more.

"People with type 2 diabetes should receive regular monitoring of liver function, as they could be at risk of developing life-threatening cirrhosis and liver cancer."

diabetes on its own has no chance to develop cirrhosis, unless a high fat diet (LCHF) predisposes to fatty liver which if uncontrolled may progress to cirrhosis. cirrhosis is a precursor for liver cancer. a known carcinogen for liver is aflatoxin in spoiled groundnuts.

cancer stomach is caused by oral route with many carcinogens in diet especially smoked fish.

if a diabetic also has hepatitis B or C infection ,it is an added risk for liver cirrhosis and then as a complication liver cancer.
