Recently I checked and found that my glucose level has increased and also I get disturbed sleep.
Are Diabetes and sleep interrelated and one can cause the other?

For good blood sugar control, 7-8 hours of night sleep is necessary.
ME TOO HAVE SLEEP DISTURBANCE DUE TO BLOOD SUGAR CAN ANY ONE SUGGEST REMEDIES FOR THE SAME
Lethargy and insomnia can both have their roots in blood sugar control and can be a key to re establish a healthy sleep pattern. If a few things are kept in mind, that may help in getting good night's sleep.
Of course an adequate control of blood sugar is very essential. Please stick to a regular bed time and no late night eatings. No watching TV lying down or working late on a computer. Bed room should be dark and free from noise. It should be well ventilated and room temperature should be ambient. Bed should be comfortable and if possible large and pillow should be at comfortable height.
Please do not go to your bed room frequently if that is possible. If not feeling sleepy, then go to a different room ,do some work or read something till you feel sleepy .try to think about some very memorable or pleasant moments of your life.
Wish you a very good night's sleep.
I have not come across any data showing diabetes causes sleeplessness. On the other hand lack of sleep and irregular life style may disturb sugar levels.
Yes. Sound Sleep is necessary for stress-free dia care. Lack of it leads to higher stress. Stress and sugar control are related.
Diabetes and sleep problems often go hand in hand. Diabetes can cause sleep loss and there is evidence that not sleeping well can increase your risk of developing diabetes.
Difficulty getting a good nights sleep could be result of number of reasons. Apart of very frequent going to bathroom at night causing sleep disturbance, hypoglycaemia at night, too high blood sugars, sleep apnea ( it is a condition in which is marked by loud snoring and a pause in the breathing while you sleep ), being overweight or obese or sign of neuropathy.
In general people with diabetes have to be very careful about sleep, because anything that throws off their routine make them feel lack of energy and fatigue.
Chronic sleep deprivation can affect the hormones that control appetite . Recent findings link inadequate sleep with lower levels of hormone leptin, which helps to the metabolism of carbohydrate. Low levels of leptin have been shown to increase the body's craving for carbohydrate regardless of amount of calories consumed.
Thanks. Very informative posts. In one of the posts you mentioned that 7-8 hours sleep in night is good sleep. Does the number of hours for a good sleep varies from age to age e.g. for a person in 40s possibly 7-8 is a good sleep but for a person in 60s 5-6 hrs or less sleep will be good/adequate sleep?
Like good diet and excercise ,sleep is a critical component of overall health. So begin by assessing your own indivisual needs and habits and see how you respond to different amount of sleep. Please pay careful attention to your mood, energy and health after a poor nights sleep versus a good one.
Researchers recommend 7-8 hours night sleep for persons 65+ while for 24-64 yrs It is 7-9 yrs.
Thanks. A very helpful mail. Best regards, RAKESH
