What is the best way to reduce occasional hypo BS?

Dear All,

I'm a T2 diabetic.

After my regular 40 minutes of exercise today, my blood sugar reading was 74 mg/dL, the lowest since i have started using my glucometer. How do i avoid BS going less than 80 mg/dL? What is the best way naturally to quickly increase the BS if i go to hypo like this?

The tablets that Hidden had been talking about are for raising blood sugars. You will have to ask your doctor if they want you to use these or get other forms of food/medication that can get in fast on the go. Please call your doctor this week to discuss the issue.

Do a test before you exercise and if your number is near upper 200's and close to 300's, exercise then retest afterwards. If you're under 200's eat a small snack with some carbs. to hold you before you start exercising then retest and see if you need more food/carbs..

I’m okay. I have my Endocrinology appointment tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 pm.

It’s almost 10 pm here, but I will be around tonight for a little bit longer.

Please carry a couple of hardboiled sugar candies with you next time and the minute you feel confused, shaky and get tremours or even Puky pop a candy . Fastest way to get Bs up is with glucose added in water with some lemon . Drink it up ,If Plain lemon sherbet available thats good too . Avoid aerated drinks

Keep a couple of banana's with you.

In case you feel hypo, take one.

While sugar candy or raw sugar can also be taken, these are plain sugar. but at least banana can give you some vitamins and minerals along with glucose.

Hi, dear,

I observed from your message that your exercise is helping you to bring down the blood sugar and you want to know how to prevent your bs. not to go below 80mg/dl. The answer is your exercise. i.e If you are walking very briskly for 40mnts you are burning not only the excessive calories also burning the needed calories. My Suggestion is to maintain your 40mnts exercise with reduced aggressiveness so that your bs. do not fall down. I hope you are not taking medicines.

Hi mrcav, thanks for your suggestion. I now have some snack like nuts before i start my exercise now. My BS after exercise for last two days stays at around 90-100 mg/dL. Yes, i do not take any allopathic medicines.

What was the number before you had your snack and then did exercising?

barani19 profile image
barani19Administrator in reply toActivity2004

It was 120-125 mg/dL before exercise and after exercise it was 82 mg/dL

Hidden ,

Not all diabetics are the same. Some diabetics drop too fast if they are below 200 before exercise. Others do well being below 200 and no snack before doing any type of exercise.

Thanks for your suggestions Hidden .This is a very old post. I have learnt to better manage occasional hypo. Truly speaking, the occasional hypos have become non-existent as my HbA1C hovers around 6.5-7.2 % these days.
