Please Lead MY Wife Light

Both I and my wife have been suffering from Diabetes type 2 for a few years. My fasting BS is 105 and PPBS is 163. But I am much worried with the health of my wife whose FBS is 260 and PPBS is 375. I take no medicine but my wife has been taking medicines since detection, but in vain. I presume she follows the lifestyle part reluctantly. She is a housewife hence spends hours at home doing household chores or watching TV. She is 51, 5'2", weighs 72. I request eminent members of the forum to assist her hinting at the daily diet and the type of exercise she should take regularly. She takes Pioplus 2 BD and Cobadex CZS OD. Awaiting your precious suggestions, thanks and regards.

Pioplus 2 is a combo drug consisting of networking, Glimeperide and Pioglitazone to lower blood glucose. Cobadex CZS is a vitamin B12 along with Chromium, Zinc and Selenium.

But medicines are less effective unless you bring a drastic change in life style and food.

(1) to remain active , TV watching to be minimised- may be 20-30 mnts max per day. In the house it self she can remain active in kitchen, watering plants , upkeep of house. Sitting in sofa for a long duration at a stretch to be avoided. Walking stairs in stead of lift for 1-2 floors.

(2) Apart from above, Brisk walk for 45 mnts in a garden / park twice daily.

After meals she should walk for 15-20 mnts.

(3) Take liberal servings of veg salad consisting of cucumber, carrot, tomato, Lemon before each meal.

(5) LCHF diet - Minimise all carbo's - avoid all grains rice, wheat, and also minimise pulses which contain carbo's.

(6) moderate amount of protein from full cream curd, cheese, paneer, and egg.

(7) main staple should be fat from coconut meat, cheese, Egg, fatty fish, some nuts such as almonds, flax seeds could be in moderation.

(8) the oil used in cooking preferably from Ghee butter or olive oil or Coconut oil.

(9) refined cooking oils such as sunflower, safflower, soyabin , rice bran should be avoided

(10) almost all fruits except berries are loaded with carbo's and so better avoided.

The above suggestions are broad guidelines and are based upon our experience and our practice and the quantity/ overall calories per day depending upon individual need and capacity whether weight reduction is desired.

Diabetes are associated with poor carbo matabolism and so carbo to be minimised

Thanks a lot Namahaji for your kind suggestions. We are Bengalis hence rice is our staple food. Should you please spare some moments to make a diet list for my wife keeping in view our food habits of taking white rice, wheat roti, puffed rice (Muri) etc? I would be obliged if you do so to aid the process of recovery of my wife. Thanks and regards.

You have to develop new relationship with food if you want to manage blood sugar effectively. We as diabetics can not process carbohydrate as efficiently as non-diabetics and carb impacts blood sugar maximum. Therefore, we need to avoid/limit consumption of wheat/rice/pulses etc. in any form.

Replace white rice with brown rice immediately. Increase consumption of fish(not fried fish). It seems she is not having a sound sleep. She can take one glass of milk with 5 strands of Saffron before sleep.
