First, let us understand what the insurance companies offer.Generally, they cover hospitalization expenses at their approved hospitals. It means you should have been admitted as an in patient. The hospitals may offer you cashless facility with prior approval of the insurer through their third party service provider or you can pay all the bills yourself and then claim reimbursement from the insurer. But a diabetic normally gets treated at a clinic as an outpatient and so he is considered as a case of domiciliary treatment.Since a diabetic is also coming under pre existing case, insurers treat them differently. In fact they avoid such cases by demanding exorbitant premiums. In my case also,I have health insurance but does not cover diabetes because of the high premium that I did not consent.People needing expensive treatments like dialysis may go for it.Have a detailed discussion with the insurer and choose a policy that suits you best. The devil is in the fine print is a saying that fits exactly into medical insurance business.
